You know WHY the album is named "Miles Smiles"? It's because (and Bob Belden's liner notes on the box set of Miles' 2nd Great Quintet hint at this) EVERY take on this album was a FIRST complete take, and if Miles made it all the way through to his solo, no one else was allowed to, if I may quote the one and only Jimmy Durante, "stop the music!"... and yet, ALL the solos, ALL the support by Ron & Tony, ALL the ensemble playing, is as close to perfection as jazz will EVER... AND I MEAN, EHHHHHHHHVER, get. That's a HAPPY Miles saying, "Teo...Teo...Teo..."!

And, yes again, Jeffrey from Richmond of the Jim Rome Show brought me here!

This has got to be awesome. Of course I knew it. All my friends and family thought this was shite but my three year old son Leo laughed his ass off when he heard the intro! He made me play him the intro for a half hour yesterday, and every time he laughed his ass off! Therefore it must be the bees knees. You know, from the mouth of babes and all that jazz!

M.D.Q. did my favorite version/arrangement of this great Jimmy Heath tune....i love how they (or Miles?) re-arranged it wonderfully...simplified it and gave it more "stab"...inserted more room for the thythm section to cook it up between the phrases of the theme....there is an AMAZING live version up on youtube, too...from '67 i think....
