Paranoid
Milestones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a monster in my head
A memory I can't forget
And it's never gonna leave
Because maybe she broke my backbone
And drove me out my mind
Just another cold burn from all the times
She said she'd set me free
Well you sold me out
So now you're going down
Because the demons never sleep

I'm paranoid that the girl without the voice
Is saying that I'm going insane
Well we all know that the darkness never fades
I'm paranoid that the girl without the voice
Is saying that I'm going insane
Well we all know that the darkness never fades

And the truth scares me to death
That there's no ache left in my chest
Just a tragedy I lost
But my knees go weak at the thought of you kissing his lips
Running your hands down to get your fix
But now I finally see
How you sold me out
And now you can't stop going down
So if you thought that you could leave, oh baby

I'm paranoid that the girl without the voice
Is saying that I'm going insane
Well we all know that the darkness never fades
I'm paranoid that the girl without the voice
Is saying that I'm going insane
Well we all know that the darkness never fades

I can't take it
All the memories erased in hatred
Oh, you know I'm just stuck in the middle
I'm innocent
'Cause I can't face it all
All the therapy just fuels my hatred
I'm just stuck in the middle
Caught up in the riddle
Stuck in the middle of what you did

I'm paranoid that the girl without the voice
Is saying that I'm going insane
Well we all know that the darkness never fades
Paranoid that the girl without the voice

Is saying that I'm going insane
Well we all know that the darkness never fades

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Milestones's song "Paranoid" explore a complex range of emotions related to heartbreak and betrayal. The singer is haunted by memories of a former relationship, unable to forget the ways in which their ex-partner hurt and manipulated them. The metaphor of the "monster in my head" indicates the lasting psychological damage inflicted by this person, while the line "she said she'd set me free" reveals the ways in which the singer was led to believe in false promises of freedom and release.

Throughout the song, the singer is grappling with feelings of paranoia and fear that they are losing their grip on reality. This is reflected in the repeated phrase "I'm paranoid that the girl without the voice is saying that I'm going insane," reflecting a deep-seated worry that they are losing control of their own thoughts and emotions. At the same time, the singer is consumed with a deep rage and sense of injustice at the way they have been treated.

The emotional complexity of the lyrics is echoed by the song's soaring, anthemic sound, which builds from gentle guitar and piano into a full-throated chorus that seems to capture the singer's anguished cries. The result is a powerful and deeply affecting song that reflects the pain and confusion at the heart of heartbreak.
