Walk on Water
Milk Inc Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When nothing would last
There was a time
I held on to the past
I would walk on water
Just to be with you
Walk on water
Split the ocean, cross the sea
Walk on water if you believe
There was a time
I lost my faith
There was a time
I could only hate
You were my shepherd
You were my guide
I followed your dark eyes
Right into the night
You were my savior
You took control
You came and touched my soul
I would walk on water
Just to be with you
Walk on water
Just to be with you
Split the ocean, cross the sea
Walk on water if you believe
There was a time
When nothing would last
There was a time
I held on to the past
You were my shepherd
You were my guide
I followed your dark eyes
Right into the night
You were my savior
You took control
You came and touched my soul
Why are you still overshadowed by the dark?
If only you could see the love that carries me
The lyrics of Milk Inc.'s "Walk on Water" speak to a time of upheaval and uncertainty in the singer's life. They describe a time when nothing lasted, and they held on to the past, seemingly unable to move forward. However, there was someone who acted as a guide during this difficult time - the person addressed in the song's chorus. The singer is so desperate to be with this person that they would do anything, even walk on water, if it meant being with them. The repeated phrase of "walk on water" is both a metaphor for the lengths the singer would go to be with this person, as well as a reference to the biblical story of Jesus walking on water - perhaps indicating that this person holds a similar deity-like status in the singer's eyes.
As the song progresses, the singer delves deeper into their relationship with this person. They describe a time when they lost their faith and could only hate, but this person acted as their shepherd and guided them back onto the right path. They followed this person into the night, and they became their savior, taking control and touching their soul.
The song ends with a plea to the listener to look beyond the darkness and see the love that carries the singer. This could be interpreted as a message to the person in the chorus, asking them to realize how much they mean to the singer and how much they would do for them, or it could be a broader message about the power of love and its ability to guide us through difficult times.

I was 63 yesterday, lived through the finest musical decades, 60's,
70's, 80's and 90's. Thanks to John Peel I started to get into house
and trance in the mid 90's and on new years eve1999 I went to meet a
mate of mine to get some acid.. He couldn't get any but asked me if I'd
be interested in a pill instead. After Old Lang Syne I was walking
home and happened to be walking past a nightclub and could hear the beat
through the walls so I went inside. It was the start of 3 years of
pills and being the first on the dance floor and the last off and this
amazing track was part of that journey. To say I feel privileged is an
understatement...
