On The Fence
Milo Greene Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Am I right to think that you
Are just a little bit more, little bit more becoming
Is it true to think that you won't cut me loose
Am I just a little bit more, little bit more than nothing to you

Part of me keeps coming back
To the part of you I want around
I'm on the fence about it again
Do I let you go or let you in

I'm on the fence, you won't shut me out
(Never going to shut you down even if I'm on the fence)
You won't shut me out and I'm on the fence, you won't shut me out
(Never going to shut you down even if I'm on the fence)
You won't shut me out and I'm on the fence

I'm not trying to think it through
But you keep making me doubt, making me doubt about it
If I try to make you choose I know I'll lose
But you keep making me doubt, making me doubt about what to do

Part of me keeps coming back
To the part of you I want around
I'm on the fence about it again
Do I let you go or let you in

I'm on the fence, you won't shut me out
(Never going to shut you down even if I'm on the fence)
You won't shut me out and I'm on the fence, you won't shut me out
(Never going to shut you down even if I'm on the fence)
You won't shut me out and I'm on the fence

Shut me down, shut me down but not this way
Shut me down, shut me down but not this way
Shut me down, shut me down but not this way
Shut me down, shut me down but not this way

I'm on the fence, you won't shut me out
(Never going to shut you down even if I'm on the fence)
You won't shut me out and I'm on the fence, you won't shut me out

(Never going to shut you down even if I'm on the fence)
You won't shut me out and I'm on the fence

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "On The Fence" by Milo Greene depict a dilemma in a relationship where one person is unsure of where they stand with the other. The opening lines express a desire to believe that the other person has become more significant to them, and they don't want to be seen as insignificant. However, they are also uncertain if the other person values them in the same way or if they will cut them loose. The singer keeps vacillating between wanting to let go and wanting to continue the relationship.

The song's chorus emphasizes the singer's need for the other person not to shut them out, even if they are on the fence about the relationship. The singer is not trying to think the situation through but is being made to doubt repeatedly. If they tried to make the other person choose, they know they would ultimately lose. The song ends with a plea for the other person not to shut them down.

Overall, "On The Fence" beautifully expresses the struggle in deciding to continue or call it quits in a relationship that is uncertain.

I like their new sound, but for different reasons that I love their old sound - the first album made me feel nostalgic and dreamy, but from what I've heard of their new album it's more energetic, 'pump up' kind of music. I love both kinds for different reasons, so I'm super excited to hear the rest of the tracks on 'Control'. :)

I am a major fan of their first album and I think this track is fantastic. It's fine to not like their new style, but there is no reason to call it garbage. They are people who were interested in creating something reflective of what they are into at this specific point in time. No one can ultimately say what is good and what is not, it's subjective to the listener. I fully support the direction you are moving in Milo Greene & loved seeing you in Chicago last month!

Love the new sound. I saw them a few days ago in Nashville and their performance really blew me away. Yes, this album is different than their first, but it's still fantastic. Art is about experimenting, growing, pushing boundaries -- and that's what Milo Greene is doing.

Indeed, anything is possible.

Maybe, you're regressing... Who knows?

Art is a about progression not regression. I dont think we will see Banksie start doing Turner and Picasso reproductions anytime soon. There was no need for them to do 80's synth pop at all. They had something beautiful to build on, not bin and reinvent themselves. Sorry to disagree, opinion is everything and i do respect yours.

I think the two new songs sound very different initially, but if you picture them within the context of a live performance amongst some of their other songs, then I think they'll blend nicely. Need to wait for the rest of the album of course.

O som dessa canção me remete a atmosfera das músicas da década de 80! Simplesmente perfeito!

Loving this album so far!

I wasn't a huge fan of their new sound when "Control" first came out, but its really grown on me. No matter what she is singing, Marlana's voice is captivating. "Perfectly Aligned" on their last album will forever give me chills.
