At the age of 14, after two years living in Mexico City, Mimi returned to Puerto Rico for good. In 1987, she started jamming with local bands, untill her brother Niguel influenced her into Metal Music; and they formed a band. They played a couple of years together with Rencor, one of the first “in-Spanish” rock bands from Puerto Rico.
Mimi studied Fine Arts in The Arts School in Old San Juan. When she was 20 years old, she met the island ska scene and got hooked on Jamaican reggae-rocksteady beat style. In 1991, she entered an all-girl band, Alarma!, a heavy music band. They travelled to New York, and played in Sob's and in Los Angeles for the La Banda Elastica Festival with Maldita Vecindad. They were also opening act for many bands that came to the island, such as Dos Minutos, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and Fito Paez.
But things were about to change... she met an Argentinian musician from Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, saxophone player Sergio Rotman. After a coupe of years of friendship, the relation grew, they fell in love, and started to travel together anywhere! Sergio invited Mimi to form a band with him, so she decided to go South, to Buenos Aires. In Argentina, Mimi was invited to sing with Cienfuegos (Sergio's punk rock project), she sang in the Caravelas y Diablitos by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, met the "porteña" scene, recorded with Attaque 77, Los Piojos, Kapanga, and sang with many other friends.
In 1998, she became mother to a son named Leroy. Sergio and Mimi formed a band with friends that had the same love for Jamaican music & Latin rhythms. They've performed in many Buenos Aires clubs, cafe's & theaters, for example, Ciclo Molotov in the Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas, along with Riddim, in Luz y Fuerza Theater with Cienfuegos, in Cemento with Lumumba, openings for Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Fun People, Divididos...

Mimi Maura Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Llorando mi mala suerte
Día y noche en la cantina
Y bebiendo hasta caerme
Recordando a cada instante
El día que la conocí
El día que le di mi amor
Desde entonces la adore
Por qué Dios mío?
Por qué tanto castigo?
Si mi único pecado,
si mi único delito
Es querer como he querido
Mis amigos me aconsejan
me dicen que me controle
Pero es porque ellos no saben
Que cuando uno quiere mucho
y no lo quieren
Todo se hace insoportable
Porque Dios mío,
la pusiste en mi camino?
Para que la amara tanto
como la estoy adorando
Si no soy correspondido
Porque Dios mío,
hoy me tienes por el mundo...
Vagand
o en soledad, buscando una razón para seguir adelante.
The lyrics describe the singer's pain and sadness after being deceived by a woman they loved deeply. They are wandering through the world, spending their days and nights in bars and drinking to forget their troubles. Despite this, they cannot stop thinking about the day they met their love and how they gave everything for them. However, their love was unrequited, and they were left feeling alone and betrayed. The singer is questioning why God would allow them to love so deeply, only to be hurt so badly, and why they must suffer so much.
The emotions expressed in this song are universal, and anyone who has experienced heartbreak can relate to the singer's feelings. The use of vivid imagery and metaphorical language, such as "vagando por el mundo" (wandering through the world) and "recordando a cada instante" (remembering every moment), creates a powerful and emotional response in the listener. The lyrics are also accompanied by a beautiful, melancholic melody that adds to the somber mood of the song.

Voy vagando por el mundo
I am wandering aimlessly around the world
Llorando mi mala suerte
Crying my bad luck

Spending day and night at the bar
Y bebiendo hasta caerme
Drinking until I pass out
Recordando a cada instante
Remembering every moment
El día que la conocí
The day I met her
El día que le di mi amor
The day I gave her my love
Desde entonces la adore
Since then, I have adored her
Y la ingrata me engaño
And the ungrateful woman cheated on me
Por qué Dios mío?
Why, my God?
Por qué tanto castigo?
Why so much punishment?
Si mi único pecado,
If my only sin,
si mi único delito
If my only offense
Es querer como he querido
Is to love as I have loved
Mis amigos me aconsejan
My friends advise me
Me dicen que me controle
They tell me to control myself
Pero es porque ellos no saben
But it's because they don't know
Que cuando uno quiere mucho
That when you love deeply
y no lo quieren
And it's not reciprocated
Todo se hace insoportable
Everything becomes unbearable
Porque Dios mío,
Why, my God,
la pusiste en mi camino?
Did you place her on my path?
Para que la amara tanto
So I could love her so much
como la estoy adorando
As I am currently adoring her
Si no soy correspondido
If I am not loved back
Porque Dios mío,
Why, my God,
hoy me tienes por el mundo...
Today, You have me wandering the world
