Maybe Maybe Not
Mindy McCready Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Uh huh
I had a load in the dryer, I was waitin' at the laudrymat
Sittin' on top of a washin' machine
I could hear the sound of a quarter tumblin' around
I'd left in the pocket of my dirty blue jeans

I reached in just to pull it out
Never thinkin' how it'd burn my hand
It rolled over by the payphone
Ain't it funny where it chose to land

Maybe it's a sign, maybe I should call
To see if everything's alright back in Omaha
Maybe you were right, maybe I'm to blame
Maybe if I try real hard baby I can change

I could do what you say and just grow up
It might be worth a shot
But then again, maybe not

I gathered up my clothes, I didn't even fold 'em
Just stuffed 'em into a pillowcase
I threw 'em in the back seat, jumped in the car
Headed on out to the interstate

I turned on the radio
How'd they know to play our favorite song?
It nearly freaked me out
To hear it on every station I turned on

Maybe it's a sign, maybe I should call
To see if everything's alright back in Omaha
Maybe you were right, maybe I'm to blame
Maybe if I try real hard baby I can change

I could do what you say and just grow up
It might be worth a shot
But then again, maybe not

Oh baby, whoa baby
Maybe not

Maybe it's a sign, maybe I should call
To see if everything's alright back in Omaha
Maybe you were right, maybe I'm to blame
Maybe if I try real hard baby I can change

I could do what you say and just grow up
It might be worth a shot
But then again
But then again, maybe not

Oh baby, whoa baby
Maybe not

Oh oh oh baby
Maybe not

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mindy McCready's song Maybe Maybe Not describe a woman doing her laundry at a laundromat while reflecting on her past relationship. She finds a quarter in her pocket, but it burns her hand when she tries to retrieve it. As she contemplates calling her ex to see if he's doing okay, she hears their favorite song on the radio. She considers that it might be a sign that she should call him and try to make amends, but then again, maybe not.

The song explores the human tendency to revisit past relationships and question the decisions we've made. The singer wonders if she made a mistake and if there is a chance to fix things with her ex. However, she also acknowledges that taking responsibility for her actions and changing her behavior may be worth a shot, but there's no guarantee it will work out. The song encourages listeners to reflect on their own relationships and consider whether trying to make amends is worth the effort, even if the outcome is uncertain.

🙋 when I first heard Mindy McCready music I was so blown away by her voice & her songs are like out of this world. Mindy McCready could sing but there was no tomorrow. I had seen her like 7 times in concert and I have to say is this I had a blast, I had fun, I was relaxed, and I had a great time. When you go to a Mindy McCready concert it does not feel like you're at one of her concerts at all. It just feels awesome being right there watching her singing person. Those who has seen her live knows what I'm talking about. Also I will say it is a shame what happened to her. Was not fair and it was not her time to go yet way too young. Mandy McCready had such great talent when it came in singing. Also I have a poster of Mindy McCready on my wall.she had signed it for me. Also I will say Mindy McCready is such a sweetheart as well. She was always sweet kind caring good-hearted down-to-earth person who had a great soul. Now she's up in heaven as a (( 👼 )) also she's making music up in heaven as well.

Can't believe how stunningly beautiful and talented she was... I wish things had gone better for her... 😞

It is so sad that we lost her so young. She was a great singer and had her whole life before her. She will never be forgotten. R.I.P. Mindy McCready.

Khaled Sahraoui

Yeah, it's really sad what's happened to poor Mindy. I still have faith that she'll get back on her feet and launch the comeback of the century. I met her after a live performance in summer 1996 and she signed my copy of her "Ten Thousand Angels " album. She was very gracious and sweet, and really flattered to know that I'd come all the way across the Atlantic just to see her. She was/is so beautiful. I had a giant teenaged crush on her.
