Maybe He'll Notice Her Now
Mindy McCready Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She wrote, "I feel just like that painting collecting dust on the wall
And every day you walk right by me and don't know I'm there at all
And I can't think of one single reason why I should be hanging around"
She signed it, "I hope that you'll miss me", and she drove herself out of town

Maybe he'll notice her now, maybe he'll open his eyes
Sometimes it takes somebody leaving for a man to realize
Maybe he'll tell her she's the only thing that he can't live without
Now that she's gone maybe he'll notice her now

When he came home late that evening, he called her name down the hall
He saw the outline of the painting that used to hang there on the wall
And in its place on the nail was a letter, he read it out loud to himself
And the loneliness began to take over and for once he knew just how she felt

Maybe he'll notice her now, maybe he'll open his eyes
Sometimes it takes somebody leaving, for a man to realize
Maybe he'll tell her she's the only thing that he can't live without
Now that she's gone maybe he'll notice her now

He called her up, he said I have been such a fool
She said I will come back and boy I still love you

Maybe he'll notice her now, maybe he'll open his eyes
Sometimes it takes somebody leaving for a man to realize
Maybe he'll tell her she's the only thing that he can't live without
Now that she's gone maybe he'll notice her now

I'm coming home, maybe you'll notice me now

Overall Meaning

The song 'Maybe He'll Notice Her Now' by Mindy McCready tells the story of a woman who feels invisible in her relationship. In the first verse, she compares herself to a painting collecting dust on the wall that her partner walks by every day without noticing. She feels unimportant and insignificant, and she can't think of a reason to stay in the relationship. The woman decides to leave and leaves a note hoping that her partner will miss her.

In the second verse, the man comes home and calls out for the woman, but she is not there. Instead, he sees the empty space where the painting used to hang and reads her note. He realizes how she must have felt and how he took her for granted. In the chorus, the song suggests that sometimes it takes someone leaving for a person to realize how much they mean to them. The man finally understands that the woman was the only thing he couldn't live without, and he calls her to apologize and ask her to come home.

Overall, the song highlights the importance of appreciating the people we love while they are still with us. It shows the consequences of taking someone for granted and the pain that can come from feeling invisible in a relationship.

Such a talented singer who could never seem to escape the demons that haunted her. She lives on in the beautiful music she left us . I pray she found the peace that always eluded her. You are missed Mindy.

Sarah Beth

She has found that, and so much more. She will forever be with all of us. <3

Lembit Punapart

Yes she was talented - BUT she hated herself, because she probably made suicide, sad but true.

Sarah Beth

@Lembit Punapart She most certainly did NOT hate herself!!! IF she passed by her own hand - and that's a big IF! - it would have been because she was extremely sad at having just lost the love of her life. I know Mindy, and she absolutely did not hate herself, or anyone even. So much love in that girl's heart.
