I haven't heard this in years. My favorite Wes M. song. Brings tears to an 80 year old - good tears! I named my son Wes in 1969. Not Wesley; just Wes. I liked this so much, I learned to play some of it - loved the octaves and double octaves he did on this. What a cool musician - hope some young player picks up on this, and carries it forward one day.

I'm sitting here on my couch with headphones on listening to Wes on Youtube..... my wife is sitting next to me watching a home improvement show on TV....she understands that I couldn't care less about this couple picking out tile for their bathroom ...I'm in a whole different world right now listening to my friend Wes.... I feel that way because he's been pouring his heart out to me for about forty years now....when I get a little down I can always count on old Wes to make me feel better,,.,,.he's reaching right across a couple of generations and speaking to me and and it's reaching something deep inside me in a way I couldn't possibly explain...and I'm listening to every note he plays and marveling at his soulfulness and his creativity and the tone he's getting out of that big fat Gibson.. . and now my wife just changed the channel to a cooking show.

@@GeordieGrey thanks and happy listening… there are so many great recordings of Wes out there ( Smokin at the half note is a great one to check out) but they’re all good… his later records were a mixed bag with overdubbed strings that aren’t my favorite but he still plays great on them…just found out my 28 year old nephew discovered him too and listens just to relax… enjoy!

I was born in ‘69. My father was a huge lover of Wes Montgomery’s music. This is the first song I remember ever hearing in my life, maybe 1-2 years old. Whenever I hear it, i feel a memory like mood... or spaciousness... Can’t describe it. That’s how young I was. But it feels good.

I was sent to Vietnam in 1966. The guy nearest to me in that stiffling tent was a "soul brother" from Detroit. He brought a battery-operated 45 rpm record player and one single record. This one. He played it over and over again right into 1967. It was the first jazz tune I'd ever heard and no matter how many tunes, instruments and artists I came to knowin my life-time this one has remained my favourite. I wish I could remember that soldier's name. Are you there, reading this perhaps?

@@daldieduckweather5320 In addition to my earlier comment, Daldie, Wes Montgomery was criticized by the "Black Movement" for recording "white" or "classical" backup instrumentation but who the hell are they to judge the progression of music itself? Music should dictate its own terms and be appraised or appreciated by audiences just like any other art form. Wes Montogermny and Charly Pride were excellent musicians but if people slander them because of the correlation between musical genre and colour of skin then their interests are not motivated by music at all.

I do agree, he did lay the groundwork. But the people playing today are just posers. I don't think anyone has made any real contribution to jazz in like 50 years. Frankly, it all sounds like nonsense - people just trying to be cool; cause it's cool, not because they are. You'd have to get into people like Eric Clapton, and that guy on the Thriller LP, to hear anything really great. The rest are just pimping off of work already done.

Growing up in the 50’s and the 60’s was just COOL! We loved Wes Montgomery! I haven't heard this since the 1960s...his death rocked my world as a teenager. When Wes Montgomery died, we all thought, ”What are we going to do now?” We were lost...Wes is gone. That December 1968, I would join the US Army just to get away from it all...live was no longer simple eighteen months later I would be in Vietnam. Thanks for restoring something back in life!

+leegenix Jazz Guitar started with Charlie Christian in terms of using the guitar as a solo instrument. Django created a new and different approach based on his culture. As you said, Wes took jazz guitar to it's highest level. In my opinion, the three geniuses of modern day guitar are Charlie Christian, Django Reinhart and Wes Montgomery. Each one created a style of guitar playing that laid the foundation for everything done today.

Love this song by Wes Montgomery. As a matter of fact, I loved the entire album (which I have in my collection). I was disappointed that I never got to see in person as he passed away one week before he was scheduled to play at a jazz festival in Atlanta. I had tickets to that concert.

It's a rejoice when someone reverse their way of living better. Your comment is also refreshing. It reminds me of when my Dad passed away in 2019. I wrote this song into his obituary as his sunset song. One of his favorites. I visions him dancing into heaven with this song as the title says much also. When I was born, he would always play Bumping On Sunset because it is one of my favorites.

I was born in '69. Going back to memories from age 2 or 3, this is one of the first songs I recall ever hearing. My father was a big Wes Montgomery fan. It always takes me back, and still always sounds and feels so good.

Me and my brothers and sister along with Mom would just be playing or cooking, chillin , what ever. Just doing our own thing and he’s pop on his records and just escape in our own little world just the 6 of us. It was Family time at its Best. Listening to his music relaxing and having Family time together. I Miss those days. Listening to this makes me feel like he’s here with me listening with me. 😔😢😘. As I’m typing this one of his Favorite thing he did was cooking with unions. And Strangely... Someone is cooking them as I’m typing. That’s confirmation ( for me) that he’s here chilling and listening. 😢😊❤️. Thank You for posting this song. 😢❤️🙏🏽

This song takes me waaay back to when I was young and living in West Philly. My father owned a beautiful long brown convertable cadillac. He called it "his hog". On Sundays, we would pile in the caddy, the roof of the car would go up slowly and off we would go for ride ..first by Fairmount park since we lived so close...then the rest of the city. Good times!!

There are many many versions of this song, but YT is the only place I found this version. Now I don't know if this is the original, but it is the best. Glad you like it too.
