Minimatic Lyrics

Maybe I shouldn't
I met her in Philly and her name was Brown Sugar
See, we be making love constantly
That's why my eyes are a shade blood burgundy
The way that we kiss is unlike any other way
That I be kissin' when I'm kissin' what I'm missin'
Brown Sugar babe, I gets high off your love
I don't know how to behave
Oh Sugar when you're close to me
You love me right down to my knees
And whenever you let me hit it
Sweet like the honey when it comes to me
Skin is caramel with those cocoa eyes
Even got a big sister by the name of Chocolate Thai
Brown Sugar babe, I gets high off your love
I don't know how to behave
I want some of your Brown Sugar
Sugar Oohooh
Now that'd be how the story goes
Brown Sugar got me open, now I want some more
Always down for a menage troi
But I think I'ma hit it solo
Hope my niggaz don't mind
Stick out my tongue and I'm bout
ready to hit this pretty gritty
bitty with persistence
Yo, I don't think ya'll hear me
Brown Sugar babe I gets high off your love
I don't know how to behave
Sugar Oohooh
The song "Brown Sugar" by Minimatic is a smooth, jazzy rendition of the classic R&B tune by D'Angelo. The lyrics describe the passion and intensity of a romantic relationship, specifically with a woman referred to as Brown Sugar. The singer met her in Philadelphia and they engage in lovemaking frequently, which leaves him with bloodshot eyes. He speaks highly of her kissing and their physical connection in a way that is uniquely different from anyone else. He expresses a desire to be with her and can't resist her charm and beauty, with her dark skin and cocoa eyes. With a catchy refrain of "Sugar Oohooh," he is completely enamored with this woman who captivates him so fully and satisfies his every desire.
What's interesting about the song is that it samples the original track by D'Angelo, which was itself a reference to his own struggles with addiction to marijuana. Minimatic's version, however, is a playful and upbeat interpretation that replaces the heavy drums and bass of the original with a more lighthearted jazz arrangement. The lyrics themselves are ambiguous, potentially celebrating or glorifying the objectification of women, but also expressing a deep passion and desire for someone who represents an ideal of beauty and intimacy. Despite the controversy over its lyrics, the song remains a popular and enduring classic that showcases the best of soul and jazz music.

I love how well all the styles blend. Funk, jazz, electro, swing. . . it's all arranged so skillfully. Great vocals, tinkly piano, dirty bass and percussion to get booties moving.
