They released their first two albums, "Fantastic World" (2000) and "Procapitalist" (2002) under their own record label, On the Ring Records. Mercury Records then offered Minimum Serious a contract and they recorded their Self-titled album and "Goodbye California" by the end of 2005.
They have toured with bands boasting similar sounds and stylings such as Sum 41 and New Found Glory. Their most popular single, "Goodbye California" from the appropriately named, "Goodbye California" reached number 24 on the French charts.
Their fifth album, (R)evolution, is currently in production and is due out by the end of 2008.

My husband and I had a re-set when our last child moved out of the house. We sold our 4 bedroom house and bought our “retirement house” that was half the size. We got rid of 85 percent of our stuff easily. 15 truck loads donated, 12 trash and 12 to consignment. This felt so so refreshing. A new start. Two years and still minimal and loving it!!

@Suzy Keleher We did the same thing as Carrie Belcher. We were both still working full time, but we worked super hard on weekends and evenings. It took us less than a year. I now advise people to start early if they are going to downsize and move to a smaller space. It is so nice to have less stuff to manage. I don't miss a single thing we gave away.

I am finally at a place where we have simplified enough that I am not constantly feeling bad about my housekeeping skills. People can pop in or stop by and I literally need 10 min to pick up or wipe down the bathrooms...not A full day ahead to feel like I have to overhaul every public space to even be presentable. My husband can atest that I am more relaxed and more fun to be around.

This is so cool, because this is exactly where I'm at as well. I found Dawn in July when my mom sent me a video and I've been hooked every since. I've gotten rid of so much stuff that my house also feels calmer and stays cleaner. What a fun way to look at it! I was just thinking yesterday about a really nice purse that I put into a donation bag, along with some other quite nice bags and other things. Hadn’t gone on Facebook marketplace and I just didn’t have the energy or whatever to do something else with it. I worked as a nurse in end of life care in a facility where they only had one room of possessions at the end and it was still overwhelming for many families.
My mother-in-law had over 40 years of calendars saved. Based on her detailed records and little red hearts, my brother-in-law found the date of his conception 😂.

I was doing some volunteer work in my neighborhood this morning, and one of the other volunteers said she needed to run home (a mile away) to use the restroom. I was able to tell her she could just go across the street to my house, without worrying whether it was clean enough to be presentable. I couldn't have done that a few years ago! Yeah as a gardener id have to disagree with the lack of todo list outside 😂 theres always something to do in the garden.
Vs when you clean organise etc inside as long as no other family members are there to mess it up you can usually get a good solid 3 hours minimum of the soothing perfect ah feeling of when youre entire body mind and spirit is relaxed like slipping into a hot bath 😊
Granted the lack of people in the garden and the silence of modern nonsense and the pace of nature is waaaaay more peaceful and healthy than inside even with todo lists their fun to do lists in most cases instead of the inside sort which is often repetitive over and over often cleaning up after others and rarely seeing your accomplishment whereas with the land short of a big storm you can see the results of your work endlessly undisturbed and flourishing. So its much more satisfying. And because we have the break of seasons its not horrid to do it because we have a year between doing things in most cases. So its fun. Like eating seasonally. Youre continously excited for food and my body craves the specific seasonal fruits when the weather changes and it remembers ah its cold time for soup! Etc. So you dont have the same meal every week for the entire year and just like blah who cares cant taste it anymore type feeling. Everything becomes awesome.

I was just thinking the other day that I wished when we bought our home 3 years ago that I would have left it “empty” for a while. What I mean is I immediately went out and started buying furniture pieces and decor and new towels etc…. I wish I would have left it be for a while to know what I truly wanted for a space. So something I am doing at the moment is taking down all my decor, packing up all the extra things in my house and see how I feel, see what things I miss and what I don’t care about, essentially putting most of my house in a time will tell box lol or a quarantine box. My life is so stressful and overwhelming at the moment that I need to find some kind of peace. I know when I look around and see things lying around or a pile of laundry I feel overwhelmed. Here’s the kicker I’ve already decluttered my house and continuously do so but I think I’m ready to take my minimalist journey to the next level. Thanks for inspiring us!

I think most of us feel that pressure to get our houses "set up" and have done the same thing. I had to put my foot down when we bought our new house because I learned from our previous move that rushing to get unpacked and house warming ready meant that a lot of things just got shoved into storage and never seen again. I wanted to take my time to see where things really made sense for us and even then we still took at least a box or two a week of donations as we unpacked. Hopefully this is our forever home but boy did I learn if we ever do move again.

This reminds me of something from a Joshua Becker video (though he may have got the idea from someone else - I can’t remember!) that we should aim to have a life/home that we don’t need to have a holiday from. Miss Dawn, I would love to hear you talk about things that we don’t use often but keep for those times we do need them, such as medicine, special tools, those things we don’t need until we DO need them! As a teacher, I have items I rarely use…until that one particular student needs it. Also, is all storage kept in the same place or is any storage kept in the place needed, such as the kitchen or bathroom? Would love to hear these topics addressed.

I’ve heard these things referred to by The Minimalists as “just for when”. If I use it even once per year, I keep it “just for” that occasion. As for storage, I tend to keep things that I use in places that make sense and are convenient.

You put things where you use them day to day, any excess can get put behind (if there's space) or elsewhere. Cas/Clutterbug did a great "prime real estate" video about storing pots&pans by the stove, plates by the dishwasher etc. She actually moved extra placemats/table items out of the breakfast bar to turn it into a kids'homework station coz that's what worked/they do in that space. Tailor it to you and you'll see how much time and energy you save!

One of Dawn's videos did address this. She spoke about a juicer that she only uses if a family member is sick. So just a handful of times a year. But when she needs it she is glad she has it. For items like this she suggested packing it away somewhere where you know where it is, but where it is not taking up valuable real estate. So in this example, she would not leave it on her kitchen counter, but rather put it in a garage or basement. She does not suggest getting rid of things you are pleased to have even if you only use them infrequently, unless it is an item you could easily borrow from a family member or friend. When I look around my home, at all the things waiting for me to get motivated enough to tackle... it is truly overwhelming. I've purged more in the past year than I have ever decluttered before in my life, but I still have a long way to go before my home will be peaceful and relaxing. Such an excellent message. When I started this journey, I tried to use things up. Some worked, others I just didn’t, so they are now gone. Life is too short to use up tea that you don’t like 😝, it makes great compost….. My best takeaways so far have been the silent todo list, inventory, and the container concept. A very timely video. I was just feeling really distraught. Overwhelmed tired and decided to watch a video while I was eating lunch. I’m so thankful to see a new video and it was exactly what I needed. We’ve had sickness go through our house for the past couple of weeks with four littles. This busy month add the sickness I haven’t gotten the same time spent on decluttering like I did when I first started in august.
But then I looked back and realIzed that I have been able to declutter items in a shorter amount of time because I have a clearer focus, and stronger “muscles”. It’s true!!

Yes, I started this journey with "minimalism" 4 years ago, before knowing it was even such a thing as "minimalism lifestyle". I just always felt the need of having less things because the amount of stuff was stressing me.
Also, I don't like to spend a lot of time cleaning... And after moving 4 times in 3 years, I really realised I love to be minimalist. Just packing and moving in one day Is great :).

I also started my minimalism journey before I knew it was a thing. We were a military family (hubby and I both were active duty) so we had to move a LOT so that we could stay together. It got to the point where I wanted to be able to easily set up my home. It also made pack-outs easier. Now we are in what we consider to be our forever home, and we are maintaining that same lifestyle of keeping only what we need or enjoy. It feels fabulous.

I feel like I’m living in a minimalism experiment for the last month. We moved from Alaska to North Dakota and our moving container is very delayed. All we brought is our camping kitchen, 7 days of clothes, and sleeping bags. Our rooms are totally empty like that! Honestly, when I think about walking into a bare house, it makes me feel empty inside. I did give you the benefit of watching the whole video, which I enjoyed very much and came away with some good thoughts.
I've been at a crossroads of sorts in all of this, and I think there has to come a time when we're more "ready" to move forward. For right now, I can only handle small doses of decluttering. I found candles like that and I moved them to my kitchen a few months ago. Down to one candle left. For me it's making myself get over my mother's voice of saving it for later. When she died her house was so bursti g at the seams of stuff she was saving.....and never used and enjoyed. I am allowing myself to enjoy.

@Andrea D. RN yep, my mother insisted we keep toys because, "That's going to be worth a lot of money some day!" But then if we wanted to let it go, it was always going to be worth more. Well, it's not because people my age aren't out there looking for this stuff, they were nostalgic when they had kids and looked for it. And it's hit and miss what will end up being valuable.
My parents lived in Scotland during the bombing raids so they were impoverished and always afraid of losing everything. So I understand where it came from. But that's not my life....we have what we need. I don't need to keep stuff.

My Mom last year of cancer. Her house was completely stuffed! She hated cooking, but had 4 sets of china! It took 3 weeks & MULTIPLE trips to the various thrift stores & the dump just to clean the house out to get it ready to sell (I live the closest & the rest of the family was out of state). My Mom didn’t “enjoy” her things because she was convinced that they were worth a lot of money.

I still love to walk in and see my stuff. No stress. I have been around seniors in nursing homes that NEED to have items from home to make them feel better. Value us subjective to each person and item. I don’t like the feeling of bare empty hotels.

I think sometimes you can go a little overboard. I mean, how much of your energy does one extra candle in the rear of a cupboard really take up? I keep a dozen candles for times when the power is out. Also, in these times of shortages, it's nice to have spare things. I just found two lost and forgotten pumpkin candles that were half burned that I'm now using up and enjoying. They saved me from buying new.

Okay, but if she doesn't want that many and wants more space she can just gift it to someone else who can use it now. Why does that bother you? She's not telling you to do the exact same if you like having a lot of old candles it's just her own example. By downsizing the one candle she doesn't really want to use and still keeping a handful you think she's gone too far? Jeepers.

I have kept clothing that were too small with the aim to fit into them. Because they were really good quality, my financial situation has changed and I am not guaranteed that I will find something as good in a thrift store when the time comes. And because I cannot just go and buy something new, I am slowing losing the weight and some of those items fit now. And recently the lady at the thrift store informed me that they currently have so much donations that half of it are not even on display. What then happens to all the excess? And the extra candles? We have more and more power outages and it will be so wasteful to throw one out. That will be used in the future.

I agree, it really seems wasteful to get rid of things that are perfectly good just because you are not using them at a particular time with the mindset that you can replace it later. As far as candles are concerned, I have Christmas scents, fall scents, etc and good candles are not cheap. If I have not used them up in their season, I put them away to use later. I have more than one purse because one is not appropriate for all occasions. There is a difference in just having a bunch of useless stuff and junk in your house and being good stewards of the useful things you have. Getting rid of things just to say you got rid of it so you can have empty rooms, closets, drawers and cabinets makes no practical or economical sense to me. As a matter of fact, I have been hearing a lot lately that this minimalist fad is losing steam. It will be something else soon. I have learned from this channel when they do projects. Some really good ideas and information.

I’m literally in tears, because this has been an issue with my home. And the fact that you’ve created a video about decluttering your home and not making it seem so easy, but simply create a vision. I’ve watched videos and although their intent was to encourage, it didn’t seem relatable. I’m going to take your advice and work on my home and declutter the way you suggested. My goal to simplify is twofold: 1) having less stuff lends to open spaces which is calming and peaceful. b.) Less to manage frees up time to live a more fulfilling life. Sometimes simplifying gets in the way of my joy, however. I need color around me - textures and coziness, and sentimentals which lends to good memories. I am trying to find a balance in creating a peaceful and joyful home.

I'm finally walking the line where people say A) You've made this house a home + B) The place looks so big and peaceful 💗 The balance has finally clicked, you know? The most peaceful, restful space I have ever been in was a monastery parlour or visitors' room. It was the public space in the building where the nuns would come to you and socialise. It was sparsely furnished and sparkling clean. It had comfy , useful furniture, flowers dotted around and maybe a cushion for comfort and a lovely picture on the wall. And, it was very quiet. That's it. I absolutely loved it.

We stayed at a hotel with a kitchenette, it had three table settings, spatula, spoon, kitchen towel, saucepan, frying pan, strainer, microwave, mini frig, toaster. All the basics. It was so peaceful.

It took a week, but I finally managed to declutter my dining room table (the surface of which I had not seen for years) and last night, family members naturally sat down and had dinner together at the table. Dawn, I’ve wanted to thank you for helping me declutter my entire house. It took me 2.5 months of rewarding loads to the goodwill and giving away items. I’m a ladybug 🐞 so my house didn’t feel cluttered upon first impression but I knew better! Thank you so much! This is so hard to do. With all that we have going on in the world right now, and the shortages of things, I'm finding myself wanting to hold onto stuff in case I can't get it at another time. (example: old blankets and sheets that are still good but I'm not using) I've gone from just having the food that we eat to trying to store up stuff like rice, beans, TP, etc. How do you balance minimalism and preparedness?

A few years ago we purged truckloads of stuff and "felt minimal". Now we are planning to move, so have boxed up all the things that aren't critical to get through the day. It feels even better! I encourage anyone that is struggling with deciding what to let go of to box up even one room at a time and experience how it impacts your life.

These videos always come at the perfect time! I'm at the point where you could very easily call my house minimal. But there are those few random items that I'll see from time to time and question if it should stay or go, and ultimately that moment adds more stress than that item is worth. Thank you for this! I love empty houses... We moved a lot and every time I empty the house, I was thinking "what I wonderful home this could be", but I imagine very few things in it... So I want my current house to feel great while I am living here, and not just when I prepare to move out. I started the decluttering process years ago, but now I want to go further and become very minimal because I saw the benefits. It really feels like freedom.
I was a very very disorganized person so now I feel great to be more organized and I only achieved this by decluttering a lot.

This makes me think back to when we had new carpet fitted downstairs and had to empty the rooms first. I loved the space! The kids and their friends loved it too, running up and down the space (shoes off!)

Here's a quick suggestion to pass along about self-talk when trying to let go of things - rather than tell myself I made a "mistake" by purchasing something I no longer, or, possibly never used, I like to take a more positive approach & tell myself "it was fun but now I'm done!". Sometimes the purpose an item is meant to fulfill is very short lived. Maybe it's even just to help me recognize that I really didn't need that item afterall. So consider it good and then move on. You can even go the extra step and get your KonMari on - be grateful for what you learned from the experience of having had that item then say sayonara! :)

Thank-you for all videos. I have just started decluttering. My big one was all of my yarn. I knit and crochet so I used to hoard yarn. I had plastic totes full of yarn. About six months ago, I stopped buying yarn. I am using what I have first. My husband was shocked when he saw me donating yarn. LOL. I have been working through my home. I’ve been watching you for a long time Dawn and it amazes me how you still produce top quality content every single time. The underlying messages are essentially the same but you constantly provide new ways to look at those messages. This one got me thinking about that very nice laptop backpack in my closet that I bought when I had a laptop for work and travelled for work. I haven’t had a laptop at work for more than 5 years and haven’t travelled for work in just as long. I’m actually planning on getting a MacBook Air for home but I doubt I’d use that backpack for traveling with a home laptop. Time to put it in the quarantine (donate room).
