Lay Lady Lay
Ministry Lyrics

Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed
Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed

Stay lady stay
Stay while the night is still ahead
Stay lady stay
Heaven's fills our head

Whatever colors that you have in your mind
I show them on to you and you see them shine

Stay lady stay
Stay with your man a while
Till the break of day
Then you're gonna see him smile

His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean
And you're the best thing, he's ever seen

Why wait any longer for the world to begin?
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing over you?

Lay lady lay
Lay across my big brass bed
Stay lady stay
We're gonna build the whole night ahead

I long to see you in the morning light
I long to reach for you all night

Lay lady lay
Lay lady lay
Lay lady lay

Lay lady lay
Lay lady lay

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ministry's cover of Bob Dylan's Lay Lady Lay are a mesmerizing tribute to love and desire. The song starts with the singer inviting his lover to come lay on his big brass bed, a metaphor for surrendering to love's pleasures. He desires her to stay with him throughout the night, fully immersed in the experience of their love. The singer further emphasizes his commitment to make her feel like she's in paradise with the line, "Heaven's fills our head."

The song's tone is passionate and intense throughout. The singer brings out the colors in his lover's mind and showcases them to her in a way that makes them shine. Interestingly, the song's lyrics depict the singer's lover as having the power in the relationship. He asks her to stay a while longer with him and waits for her to make the first move, saying that she can have her cake and eat it too. In the end, the singer brilliantly ends the song with the repetition of the refrain and his desire to be with his lover forever.

I've seen Ministry at least 6 times and one of those times after they played AL Jorgensen and I nearly walked right into each other.
I asked him if he would sign my ticket, and neither of us had a pen. Then someone produced one and suddenly Al had it in hand,
I said," I knew I loved you for a reason!"
Then he looked sternly into my face and says,
"that's not the only reason?"
I was like, "oh no! Of course not!"
Then I asked if I could give him a hug, and he opened his arms and said, "YEAH!"
gave me a big wonderful embrace. I whispered into his ear, "Thank you for all the years of GREAT MUSIC!"

I was so elated. Such a cool experience.
I also realized during the encore that for a good chunk of the show I had been standing RIGHT NEXT TO Jello Biafra, and DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE IT!!!
They played the 4 Lard tracks for the encore. It was so effing awesome.

This cover is pure genius. It lacks nothing. The raw edginess is right on. It just grinds, you just can't get enough. I bet Bob likes it.⚡

@thevoid99

Ministry, one of the most incredible bands i ever heard. I used to watched all them videos on MTV in the 90's.
I'm from Argentina, San Juan.
I miss the old rock music, industrial, hard rock, punk, grunge. I wanna go back to those times but i'm happy because i lived that era with bands like this.

<Australia and yeah I saw them live back in the 90's on acid.. I have all (I think) of Al's music that I can find. Have you listened to LARD with Jello and Ministry?
