drive
Miracle Of Sound Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Small time boy
Caught in the big city
Losing all my joy
For a life that don't fit me

Got the same old dreams
As a million fools
Stacks of green
And swimming pools

And I used to swear upon wisdom
You got brains to spare you gotta give some
I kick back and flare my ignition
It's time to ride

When I need to feel alive
I just get in my car and drive
When life it starts to break my stride
I just get in my car and ride

From an open window and a stolen ride
Came a broken lifter with a fallen pride
And now I walk beside
Psychotic guides
To listen to their whines and maniacal cries

Worship the dollar and cent
White collar dissent
You holler and vent
Over the most tiny moderate dent
In your mountains of gold
Accounts that you hold
You're wound up and old
Young blood - man that fountain is cold

And I used to swear upon wisdom
You got brains to spare you gotta give some
I kick back and flare my ignition
It's time to ride

When I need to feel alive
I just get in my car and drive
When life starts to break my stride
I just get in my car and ride

What you doin what you doin what you gettin into
What you doin what you doin what you gettin into

When I need to feel alive
I just get in my car and drive
When life starts to break my stride
I just get in my car and ride

Oooh I'm gonna drive my blues away

Gonna drive my blues away
Just another sunny day

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Miracle Of Sound's song Drive capture the restlessness and disillusionment of a small-time boy caught in the big city. The singer is losing all joy for a life that does not fit him, and his dreams of wealth and success seem as elusive as they are common. There is a sense of frustration and wasted potential in his lamentations, as he realizes that he has been chasing the wrong kind of happiness. The "stacks of green and swimming pools" he craves only serve to heighten his alienation from the world around him, as he witness the shallow values and materialism of his peers.

The chorus of the song serves as a release valve for this pent-up frustration. Whenever life starts to break his stride, the singer turns to driving as a way to feel alive and regain his sense of agency. In a city of concrete and glass, the open road represents freedom, adventure, and the chance to rediscover oneself. The car becomes a symbol of power and escape, a way to leave behind the boring routine and stifling conformity of daily life.

The second verse introduces a more ambiguous and unsettling tone to the song. The singer has apparently stolen a ride and encountered some "psychotic guides" who lead him on a dangerous and self-destructive path. The lyrics suggest that he has been seduced by the allure of rebellion and transgression, but also that he is aware of the risks involved. The tension between the urge to escape and the fear of losing oneself is one of the central themes of the song, and adds a layer of complexity to what might otherwise be a simple anthem of liberation.

Really like this one. :)

Just a no nonsense song that genuinely slaps

Fire Knight

Franklin is the most relatable protagonist in GTA and defiantly the most moral. This song does a great job of showing it.

I just love Gavins work. Yes not all his songs are my cup of tea, however those are really rare and usually I love everything about the pieces he does, with the music and lyrics he captures the essence of the games and compacts it down to a great song experience. Plus I love to hear the connections between songs. Listen to Little Sister and Dream of the Sky and you will notice common musical motifs in the two Bioshock songs.

It continues to cheer me that despite the fact you've hit Minor Internet Celebrity status you still respond to fans here on youtube. You're one of only a handful of creators I can think who do this. I like the... synthy horn things in this song. Gives it an oddly GTAIV sound to my mind, acting almost as sort of a bridge between the two games - and Franklin does have the most Niko Bellic like story...

I love this song. Each song in the GTA V series really reflects the characters' personalities. Miracle of Sound is my favorite youtube channel, hands down. I've never heard a song that I haven't liked.

It's a nice change of pace to hear you rap, and you definitely manage to pull it off. I can't wait to hear what the rest of the songs are gonna sound like. Great work, Gav!
