Life In Bullet Time
Miracle of Sound Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes a man with nothing good left to die for
Can live with nothing to lose

Chichik Boom

Scars on my hands, skin windows stare into nowhere
A man with nothing to lose
Long years and days all blur in broken slow motion
Pills and cheap bitter booze

Glass shards and bloody stains on the floor
This world is rotten right to core

I keep watching the world go by in bullet time
I keep pushing the pain back down inside
Time trickles away as golden hammers chime
Keep hunting the peace I've been denied

Chichik Boom

Just like a wild stray dog I stumble through side streets
I bite louder than I bark
The noise inside my head rings out through the city
White flares flash through the dark

There is no innocence for the brave
No peace for those you suffer to save

I keep watching the world go by in bullet time
I keep pushing the pain back down inside
Time trickles away as golden hammers chime
Keep hunting the peace I've been denied

Sometimes a man with nothing good left to die for
Can live with nothing to lose

I keep watching the world go by in bullet time
I keep pushing the pain back down inside
Time trickles away as golden hammers chime
I keep hunting the peace I've been denied

Oh I keep on runnin' from the pain
But it's gonna find me now
Yeah, it's gonna find me now
It's gonna find me
It's gonna find me

It's gonna find me, yeah
Gonna find me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Life in Bullet Time by Miracle of Sound are deeply introspective and emotive, detailing the struggles of a man who has nothing left to live for but also nothing left to lose. The imagery in the lyrics is traumatizing, with scars on his hands, broken slow-motion days, pills, cheap bitter booze, glass shards, and blood stains on the floor that all paint a picture of a man who is broken and desolate. The chorus, "I keep watching the world go by in bullet time / I keep pushing the pain back down inside / Time trickles away as golden hammers chime / Keep hunting the peace I've been denied," speaks to the singer's desire to find peace after experiencing traumatic events.

The second verse references the singer's struggle to overcome the noise in his head and the lack of innocence for the brave. There is no peace to be found for those who suffer to save others, and this is a stark reminder of the cost of heroism. The chorus repeats in the same haunting melody, emphasizing the singer's inability to escape the pain that haunts him.

Overall, the song is a powerful example of how music can tell a story and evoke emotions. It showcases the bare vulnerability of a person trying to find a sense of normalcy amidst chaos, and how difficult it can be to escape the trauma of the past.

Thank you so much for this song, Gavin! I love all of your songs, but this one will always be special to me. It got me through the winter after my father died. I was overworked and depressed, and I would listen to Life in Bullet Time on repeat while walking home. It was a long walk and spending it with this song let me find an outlet for my suffering without bringing it home with me.
"I keep on running from the pain, but it's gonna find me now" always made me tear up back then and was very cathartic. Beautiful lyrics all over. And such a powerful atmosphere. Thank you.

@miracleofsound

Can't believe this song is 10 years old O_O
It's an absolute belter (as per the usual) but what would you say your current favourite is out of your whole 600+ collection?

@tylerclark3995

@miracleofsound how’s this one hold up for you today with 11 years of material since this was done? Still one of my favorites.

"Time trickles away as golden hammers chime" remains to this day as one of my favorite lyrics you've ever written, Gavin.

You knocked it out of the park with this track. I enjoy video game/"nerdcore" music (MC Frontalot, Optimus Rhyme, Jonathan Coulton, Bart Klepka, ect) but its usually still more novelty than something I'd actually listen to for pure pleasure. At the risk of sounding obsequious, this track transcends its source. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Max Payne and this fits it perfectly, but it's also a damn good song in its own right. I could totally see myself turning the radio to the local rock station and hearing this play. I gotta give particular props to the lyrical passage "there is no innocence for the brave/no peace for those you suffered to save". I may just be easily impressed but I found that passage brilliant. Finally, you channeled Angeldust/Album of the Year Mike Patton nearly perfectly while keeping it your own. If I had the ability to make a request of you it would be that you experiment more with that vocal style in the future, I really liked the contrast of the lower, more guttural(?) Midlife Crisis/Ashes to Ashes sounding vocals with the higher pitched chorus and coda
