The Best I Can
Miracle of Sound Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sunshine
Fading from your stare
Sometimes
It's better not to care

And I can see your smile is withered
One more autumn leaf is drifting on the wind
Innocence is wasted
And I'm so sorry that you never can replace it
The darkest road ahead you're gonna have to face it
Cause I can't always be there
For now I'll do the best I...

Can you
Feel it on the wind?
Changes
Weakened from within

And I can take your hand and guide you
But hope is all that I can leave you on your way

Innocence is wasted
And I'm so sorry that you never can replace it
The darkest road ahead you're gonna have to face it
Cause I can't always be there...
For now I'll do the best I can

Static on a broken radio
Down into the jaws of fate we go
Static on a broken radio
Down into the jaws of fate we go

Innocence is wasted
And I'm so sorry that you never can replace it

The darkest road ahead you're gonna have to face it
Cause I can't always be there...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Miracle of Sound's song "The Best I Can" delve into the theme of growing older and losing one's innocence. The singer of the song seems to be addressing someone who is going through a difficult time, perhaps facing some harsh realities that are hard to come to terms with. The opening lines, "Sunshine fading from your stare, sometimes it's better not to care" suggest that the person is experiencing a loss of joy or optimism in their life, and that sometimes it's easier to detach from one's emotions than to confront them head on.

Throughout the song, the singer expresses regret and sorrow that they can't always be there to help the person they are addressing. They acknowledge that the person has to face some difficult roads ahead, but that they will do the best they can to support them. The lines "Innocence is wasted, and I'm so sorry that you never can replace it" speak to the idea that once we lose our sense of innocence or naivety, we can never fully regain it. This can be a difficult truth to accept, especially for someone who may be struggling to come to terms with the harsh realities of the world.

The chorus of the song is both haunting and uplifting. The repetition of the line "Innocence is wasted" adds weight and gravity to the song, while the rising melody of the line "For now I'll do the best I can" provides a glimmer of hope and determination. The final lines of the song, "Static on a broken radio, down into the jaws of fate we go" suggest a bleak outlook on life, but even in the face of such darkness, the singer holds on to hope and tries to find a way forward.

Is it just me or did Gavin voice crack a little while singing this... The feels are strong. Hard to imagine how tough it was to sing this without breaking down.

mariic2

Yeah, I think I hear it, too.

Lee, even just the outline of him on which we have no affect, is probably one of gaming's greatest heroes. I'm not ashamed to say his death had me up in tears. Doesn't happen often you get such a well-written, human character. The thing I remember the best out of all of The Walking Dead was that conversation with Christa where she complaints about Omid and how he's into Southern history. She's like: "Do you know anyone else who's interested in the civil war era?" And Lee just has the biggest smile and slowly raises his hand. Moments like this made him more human than any other character I know of in gaming history.

We all cry'd, hell even Lee's voice actor Dave Fennoy cried while recording his last lines, that's actually what lee's last breath was.

Guess now we have the good old Arthur Morgan ;)

Its because he reflected your own decisions and personality and you must have felt similar to him

It’s been so long since lee died, but he’s helped me through so much even if he’s just a fictional character, honestly around the time the game came out and we first were introduced to lee, for some reason he was my parent figure when my parents weren’t there, and I can’t think about lee without full on sobbing, I love him so much and he deserved better

A New You Motivation

It's amazing how a fictional character can have such a significant impact on one's life. I've definitely felt that way playing certain games

I listened to random Miracle of sound songs when I was going to the doctor to confirm my pregnancy. After he told me I was expecting, this was the first song I listened to going home. It's so weird how I'm very happy whenever I hear it, because I think of my son. At the same time this is one of the saddest song ever. But I love it!!!!

I miss Lee. Even though we pretty much are him in Clem, I still miss him. Top 3 Black Men in gaming no doubt.
