1) Mirah (born Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn in Philadelphia) is an American musician and songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York. After getting her start in the music scene of Olympia, Washington in the late 1990s, she has released a number of solo albums on K Records, Kill Rock Stars and various domestic and foreign independent labels, including You Think It's Like This but Really It's Like This (1999) and Advisory Committee (2001).
She has toured extensively in North America and Japan and has also toured in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Korea. Her album, Changing Light, was released on May 13, 2014 on her own imprint, Absolute Magnitude Records.
Pitchfork has praised her “incredible voice—a versatile coo that can flit from low, sultry tones to high, airy falsetto in one breath.”
Mirah has collaborated with a range of artists, from multi-media artists and orchestral composers to DJs, Baltic music enthusiasts, and entomologists. A partial list of some of her collaborators includes Phil Elverum (The Microphones/Mount Eerie), Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs), Tara Jane O’Neil, Khaela Maricich (The Blow), Susie Ibarra, Melanie Valera (Tender Forever), Jherek Bischoff, Lori Goldston, Britta Johnson and Ginger Brooks Takahashi.
Her style encompasses indie pop, acoustic, and experimental pop. According to The Rumpus in 2011, "Mirah’s early records...are DIY mini-masterpieces that express a punk sensibility through broken drum machines, reverb-drenched guitars and ukulele. Her more recent albums...are mature, complex and immaculately-produced."
In 2020, Mirah announced signing with Brooklyn-based indie label Double Double Whammy.

And rode into the ghostly night
It was wide, wide open, wide, wide open
I left the only home I knew
I stayed alive and I found you
Now I take you where the water's deep
And make the air you breathe so sweet
But is it not enough to be complete? Please?
Let me give you everything you need, please?
We found a way, we found a street
Directions sweat under the sheets
And I let you have it, let you have it
But it can be a lonely place
Desire comes, desire fades
There's a bright one caught your fancy eye
It's okay so long as you stay mine
And I'm so number one that it's a shame, a shame
That you let other numbers in the game
Now I suffer for your hungry eye
Oh why must it see more than mine?
It's a light you're after, 'cause light moves faster
But when I ride again into the night
My torch will shoot flames strong and bright
And my absence will remind you of
How tough it is to be in love
And it's not what I think it's what you say, hey
And it works great for you to have your way, hey
But if the west can be a desperate place
You search all day for just a taste
Of the cold, cold water, cold, cold water
And if you think I've gone too long
Listen the sky will sing this song
As it burns up all the memories
That flow like water out of me
The lyrics to Mirah's song Cold Cold Water describe the struggles of a relationship that is not as fulfilling as it once was. The singer had left the only home they knew and had found someone who made their life feel complete, but there is a sense that something is missing. They want to give their loved one everything they need, but the other person's desires come and go, and they are tempted by others. There is a sense of jealousy and questioning whether their partner truly loves them or if there is something better out there.
Despite their struggles, the singer is determined to continue to love their partner and reminds them of their love by riding off into the night with flames shooting from their torch. There is a sense of regret and longing as they sing about the "cold, cold water" and the memories that flow out of them. The singer seems to be trying to reconcile their love with their partner's desire for something more, and find a sense of balance in their relationship.
Overall, Cold Cold Water is a powerful meditation on the complexities of love and the struggles of maintaining a healthy relationship. The lyrics capture the desperation and hopelessness of trying to make things work when the other person is not fully committed, and the chorus hints at the possibility of moving on and finding something new.
