1) Mirah (born Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn in Philadelphia) is an American musician and songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York. After getting her start in the music scene of Olympia, Washington in the late 1990s, she has released a number of solo albums on K Records, Kill Rock Stars and various domestic and foreign independent labels, including You Think It's Like This but Really It's Like This (1999) and Advisory Committee (2001).
She has toured extensively in North America and Japan and has also toured in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Korea. Her album, Changing Light, was released on May 13, 2014 on her own imprint, Absolute Magnitude Records.
Pitchfork has praised her “incredible voice—a versatile coo that can flit from low, sultry tones to high, airy falsetto in one breath.”
Mirah has collaborated with a range of artists, from multi-media artists and orchestral composers to DJs, Baltic music enthusiasts, and entomologists. A partial list of some of her collaborators includes Phil Elverum (The Microphones/Mount Eerie), Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs), Tara Jane O’Neil, Khaela Maricich (The Blow), Susie Ibarra, Melanie Valera (Tender Forever), Jherek Bischoff, Lori Goldston, Britta Johnson and Ginger Brooks Takahashi.
Her style encompasses indie pop, acoustic, and experimental pop. According to The Rumpus in 2011, "Mirah’s early records...are DIY mini-masterpieces that express a punk sensibility through broken drum machines, reverb-drenched guitars and ukulele. Her more recent albums...are mature, complex and immaculately-produced."
In 2020, Mirah announced signing with Brooklyn-based indie label Double Double Whammy.

For a second time in all history
They found themselves just floating
Free from all responsibility
Without the weight of being whole
Some flew seaward all on their own
But if you want something back
All the things that got cracked
And all the million mistakes
And the kicks in the face
But i don't want you to die in me
So when you say what you want
That you need what you got
Don't forget to be kind to me
Now here's an apple with a tougher skin
While you've got your pretty scales and fins you say
See all the things that i can do
So perfectly my body grew but in
All the time you felt so free
Did you forget how much you once loved me
And if you want something back
All the things that got cracked
When i felt like you lied to me
And all the million mistakes
And the kicks in the face
But i don't want you to die in me
So when you say what you want
That you need what you got
Don't forget to be kind to me
I don't want you to die in me
The lyrics of Mirah's song Don't Die on Me explores the themes of separation and the fear of losing someone important. The opening lyrics suggest a sense of detachment, as the continents have divided for the second time in history and are now free from any responsibility. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for a relationship that has fallen apart, leaving the individuals feeling untethered and floating away from each other. The following line "without the weight of being whole" expresses the difficulty and pressure of maintaining a relationship, which could be why they are now floating free from it.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the need for forgiveness and understanding in any relationship. The lines "But I don't want you to die in me" indicates a fear of being unable to move on from the loss of a loved one. It suggests that the pain and hurt that occurred in the relationship still lingers, but the singer does not want their loved one to be completely gone from their life. Instead of harboring resentment towards their past mistakes, the singer wants to be kind and understanding as they move forward.
The second verse features an apple with a tough skin and a reminder that, although someone may seem strong and resilient on the outside, they too have vulnerabilities and insecurities. The last few lines repeat the chorus, emphasizing the singer's desire for reconciliation and a willingness to forgive.
Overall, the song's lyrical message encourages empathy, understanding, and the importance of forgiveness in relationships.

This has only happened once before in recorded time
They found themselves just floating

Free from all responsibility
The continents were no longer accountable for their actions
Without the weight of being whole
The individual parts of the land were not burdened by the need to stay unified
Some flew seaward all on their own
Pieces of land moved away from each other
But if you want something back
If you want to reverse time
All the things that got cracked
All the things that broke during the separation
When i felt like you lied to me
When I felt betrayed by you
And all the million mistakes
All the errors that were made along the way
And the kicks in the face
The painful experiences that occurred during the separation
But i don't want you to die in me
But I don't want you to hurt me
So when you say what you want
If and when you express your desires
That you need what you got
That you require the things you have
Don't forget to be kind to me
Remember to treat me with compassion
Now here's an apple with a tougher skin
Now, an analogy is introduced: an apple with a thicker peel represents strength and resilience
While you've got your pretty scales and fins you say
As you boast about your own beauty and abilities
See all the things that i can do
I am capable of impressive feats
So perfectly my body grew but in
However, even with all my strengths, there are still flaws within me
All the time you felt so free
The other party may have felt unrestricted and unburdened
Did you forget how much you once loved me
Did they forget the love that was once shared?
I don't want you to die in me
I don't want to be hurt by you
