Both of her parents are private investigators, but father Rick is also a country guitarist and songwriter. Lambert became seriously interested in country music after attending a Garth Brooks concert as a young girl, and soon began singing in talent contests under the tutelage of her father.
At 16, Miranda began appearing on the Johnny High Country Music Review in Arlington, Texas, the same show that helped launch the career of LeAnn Rimes. Miranda quickly landed a recording session in Nashville, but left the studio in tears after she became frustrated with the "pop" sound of music that was not her own. Upon returning to Texas, Miranda began writing songs and taking guitar lessons from her father.
When Miranda's aptitude for music became apparent, her parents encouraged her to aggressively pursue singing and acting opportunities. While still a high school student, Miranda made her professional singing debut and fronted the house band at the Reo Palm Isle Ballroom in Longview, Texas, a long-running venue that has showcased Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson.
Foregoing college, Miranda performed throughout Texas in 2001 and 2002. She finished first in the Texas auditions for Nashville Star and eventually placed third on the national competition.

In a '72 Nova,
No pill and barely old enough to drink,
Learned the ropes and tested science,
Started pentecostal riots,
In just five minutes behind the rolling rink,
In the backseat brings
First you grow it, then you show it,
Give a good push just like a Brady,
Say you'll love 'em 'till your eighty,
Too soon to be a mother and father,
But too late for the alma mater,
Yeah it's always in the water
Babies makin' babies
Between diplomas and the diapers,
They become couch quarter finders,
Savin' up for a Maytag microwave,
Oh but all has been forgiven,
On the day the water christen,
The best thing that could have happened by mistake,
The American dream on a shoestring,
First you grow it then you show it,
Give a good push just like a Brady,
Say you'll love 'em 'till your eighty,
Too soon to be a mother and father,
But too late for the alma mater,
Yeah it's always in the water
Babies makin' babies
Well it's a tried and true equation,
Maintains a small town population,
That turns us all into a family,
The American dream on a shoestring,
First you grow it then you show it,
Give a good push just like a Brady,
Say you'll love 'em 'till you're eighty,
Too soon to be a mother and father,
But too late for the alma mater,
Yeah its always in the water,
Babies makin' babies
Yes it's always in the water,
Babies makin babies
The lyrics to Miranda Lambert’s song “Babies Makin’ Babies” tell the story of two young teenagers from Tacoma, who became parents before they even graduated from high school. The song illustrates how the American dream, in this case, having a family, can be achieved even if you don’t have much. The young couple learned about reproduction in the back seat of a '72 Nova and started a Pentecostal riot. They became parents too soon, and while they are too late for the alma mater, they are now couch quarter finders, saving up for a Maytag microwave. But despite all the struggles that come with being young parents, the couple is content with their lives.
The song touches on themes like teenage parenthood and the cycle of poverty. Lambert speaks to the plight of young mothers and fathers who are struggling to make ends meet while raising a family. The lyrics show the challenges that parents face when trying to provide for their children while still trying to find their place in the world.
One of the most interesting facts about the song is that it was written by Lambert herself, along with Natalie Hemby and Nicolle Galyon. Lambert has stated in interviews that the song was inspired by her own experiences growing up in a small town and seeing the cycle of teenage pregnancy.

Ashley Carter damn... Thats way too young. I'm 13 and also asexual, I literally can't imagine having a child ever, especially at such young age, that's not even old enough to have sex, what happened? xD

Abbey B its not, it's actually lower but the media has added to the idea of it. Like mtvs 16 and pregnant, it's just more in the public eye. Not actually a higher rate.

Yet the teen pregnancy rate was higher in the 90's then it is now...
