New Strings
Miranda Lambert Lyrics

I bet this road will take me out of here
Take me far away from Amarillo
I bet this car will go real fast
The wheels might even drive me past
The places that you said I'd never go
Oh

The Texas sky is the biggest one I've seen
But it still ain't big enough for you and me
All the things that make you mad,
All the baggage in your past
Don't leave much room for a girl like me to be
So I'll fill her up with hope and worn-out dreams

And I'll grab the wheel and I'll point it west
Pack the good and leave the rest
I'll drive until I find the missing piece
You said I wouldn't get to far on a tank of gas and an empty heart
But I got everything I'll ever need
I got this old guitar and a brand new set of strings

Mama said I never should have done it
I should have ended us before we ever started
Daddy knew about my pride so he stood there and he smiled inside,
I pretended that I didn't notice
A little tear that fell when I said I was going

And I'll grab the wheel and I'll point it west
Pack the good and leave the rest
And drive until I find the missing piece
You said I wouldn't get to far on a tank of gas and an empty heart
But I got everything I'll ever need
I got this old guitar and a brand new set of strings

I've worried about life and if it's right and right on time
I guess if you don't jump you'll never know if you can fly

You said I wouldn't get to far on a tank of gas and an empty heart

But I got everything I'll ever need
I got this old guitar and a brand new set of strings

Overall Meaning

"New Strings" is a song by country artist Miranda Lambert from her debut album, "Kerosene." The song is an anthem for self-discovery and taking control of one's life. The song's main theme is about escaping a dead-end town and an unhappy relationship to embark on a new journey.

The first verse sets the scene for the listener, conveying the singer's desire to leave the town behind and start anew. She is confident in her ability to leave the past behind, and she believes that her car will take her far away from everything that held her back. The second verse speaks to the baggage that the singer's past relationship left her with, and how she is determined to make a change for the better; however, she is also filled with a sense of apprehension about the unknown. The chorus is a declaration of the singer's self-assuredness and determination, and her belief that music will help her find her way.

The third verse explores the disapproval the singer faces from her parents, who believe that she is making a mistake by leaving. Despite this, she is resolute that this journey is what she wants and needs. The final chorus encapsulates the message of the song, with the singer confidently acknowledging that she already possesses everything that she needs to succeed.

Overall, "New Strings" is a powerful anthem about taking control of one's life and forging one's own path, even in the face of opposition.

How can anyone not like this? She has it all. Beautiful woman and great music. Love it 😊.

@laughingcat341

I remember seeing Miranda performing this song on a country show years ago. She was obviously a star but overshadowed by the likes of Carrie Underwood, etc. I knew she would eventually have her day...and did she ever. Sometimes Country takes awhile to catch up. Go Miranda

@andrearichardson2405

laughingcat and for Carrie Got her foot in the Door sing with People like Randy Travis. Got to the GRAND OLD OPTEY then went that lead straight to money. Don’t get me wrong she is very talented. But Miranda has managed to blend the both and like the People that don’t loose one off the Generations. Has stuck True To Herself And has both. That what really puts her in the Group that are Really Remember Willie Nelson, Dolly, Loretta Lynn. She is Her real Self. She will be remember by all. “GUNPOWDER AND LEAD” is great 👍 G👩🏻‍🦳G

@christar9527

Andrea Richardson Carrie is a sellout. She looks bad and makes trashy music now. Miranda has remained true to herself and country music. Gunpowder and Lead!

@kljl2

@christar 95 I'm sure she's a better singer than you... And a better more respectful person..... By your standards literally every musician is a sellout.... Including Miranda

@kyleem3340
