Both of her parents are private investigators, but father Rick is also a country guitarist and songwriter. Lambert became seriously interested in country music after attending a Garth Brooks concert as a young girl, and soon began singing in talent contests under the tutelage of her father.
At 16, Miranda began appearing on the Johnny High Country Music Review in Arlington, Texas, the same show that helped launch the career of LeAnn Rimes. Miranda quickly landed a recording session in Nashville, but left the studio in tears after she became frustrated with the "pop" sound of music that was not her own. Upon returning to Texas, Miranda began writing songs and taking guitar lessons from her father.
When Miranda's aptitude for music became apparent, her parents encouraged her to aggressively pursue singing and acting opportunities. While still a high school student, Miranda made her professional singing debut and fronted the house band at the Reo Palm Isle Ballroom in Longview, Texas, a long-running venue that has showcased Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson.
Foregoing college, Miranda performed throughout Texas in 2001 and 2002. She finished first in the Texas auditions for Nashville Star and eventually placed third on the national competition.

Permanent accessory
On their arms and always on their minds
Rings, we gotta wear the real big rings
Big smiles like figurines
Big hair for the real big kind
When they turn it on and slick back their hair
We turn around and the world's right there
What happened to you is happening to me
Priscilla, Priscilla
How'd you get him to yourself?
Between the whistle calls and Southern dolls
It's enough to put a home through hell
Priscilla, Priscilla
He's always in high demand
How do you or don't you get the love you want when everybody wants your man?
It's a difficult thing being Queen to the King
And I feel ya
Priscilla
Golden gate, we have to put up a gate
To find time to procreate
Or at least that's what we read
Bodyguard, didn't know I was his bodyguard
And I shouldn't have to play the part
At least while we're not in bed
You and me share a unique position
Married to a man who's married to attention
Couldn't think of anybody better to ask
How to be the first to make it last?
Priscilla, Priscilla
How'd you get him to yourself?
Between the whistle calls and Southern dolls
It's enough to put a home through hell
Priscilla, Priscilla
He's always in high demand
How do you or don't you get the love you want when everybody wants your man
It's a difficult thing being Queen to the King
And I feel ya
Priscilla
'Cause when they turn it on and slick back their hair
We turn around and the world's right there
Woman to woman, I'm starting to see
What happened to you is happenin' to me
Priscilla, Priscilla
How'd you get him to yourself?
Between the whistle calls and Southern dolls
It's enough to put a home, a home through hell
Priscilla, Priscilla
He's always in high demand
How do you or don't you get the love you want when everybody wants your man
It's a difficult thing being Queen to the King
And I feel ya
It's a difficult thing being Queen to the King
And I feel ya
Priscilla
The lyrics of Miranda Lambert's song Priscilla are a nod to the struggles of being married to a high-demand celebrity. The song features a woman singing to Priscilla, the wife of Elvis Presley, who had to deal with the constant attention and competition of other women vying for the attention of her famous husband. The opening lines of the song describe the epitome of the life of such women- always on their man’s arm, with big rings, big hair, and big smiles. The woman singing the song appears to have a more nuanced understanding of what sharing a husband with the world entails, as she admits to having played bodyguard and having to put up gates to find time to procreate with her husband.
The chorus of the song repeatedly asks Priscilla how she managed to deal with the challenges of being married to a star. The song acknowledges the unique position women like Priscilla find themselves in, as their husband’s success means constantly dealing with the attention of other women. Lambert acknowledges that this situation can be extremely stressful, and as such, she empathizes with Priscilla.

I'm a 22-year-old Elvis fan, and I think this new song is just brillant: well done, Miranda! Priscilla Presley herself wrote to Miranda on Twitter to told her how much she appreciates this beautiful country-pop hit, so don't "fight"! Just enjoy this cool song! :)
