Both of her parents are private investigators, but father Rick is also a country guitarist and songwriter. Lambert became seriously interested in country music after attending a Garth Brooks concert as a young girl, and soon began singing in talent contests under the tutelage of her father.
At 16, Miranda began appearing on the Johnny High Country Music Review in Arlington, Texas, the same show that helped launch the career of LeAnn Rimes. Miranda quickly landed a recording session in Nashville, but left the studio in tears after she became frustrated with the "pop" sound of music that was not her own. Upon returning to Texas, Miranda began writing songs and taking guitar lessons from her father.
When Miranda's aptitude for music became apparent, her parents encouraged her to aggressively pursue singing and acting opportunities. While still a high school student, Miranda made her professional singing debut and fronted the house band at the Reo Palm Isle Ballroom in Longview, Texas, a long-running venue that has showcased Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson.
Foregoing college, Miranda performed throughout Texas in 2001 and 2002. She finished first in the Texas auditions for Nashville Star and eventually placed third on the national competition.

Waxahachie
Miranda Lambert Lyrics

I wrote a lipstick letter on the mirror with a bourbon buzz
You were right, it got about as bad as it gets
I'm not lookin' for a turnaround Tempo on the rubble strips
Waxahachie
Are you still on 35?
Are you still an all night drive
Waxahachie
I can be there by 4 A.M.
Lookin' for my long lost friend
That's what you've always been
Waxahachie
Ooh
Waxahachie
If I could just get down the road a beat
It won't be that hard
I can run from the demons like a devil in a speedin' car
I've got enough gasoline, memories and nicotine
Mm, freedom's overrated, guess I underestimated the truth
And you
Waxahachie
Are you still on 35?
Are you still an all night drive
From Louisiana?
Waxahachie
I can be there by 4 A.M.
Lookin' for my long lost friend
That's what you've always been
Waxahachie
Waxahachie
Are you still on 35?
Are you still an all night drive
From Louisiana?
Waxahachie
It's comin' on 4 A.M.
I want to be in your arms again
Just like I've always been
Waxahachie
Ooh
Waxahachie
Miranda Lambert's song Waxahachie is a reflective and emotional piece about a woman who is struggling in life. She has recently left New Orleans in a frenzy and is in search of her long lost friend in the small Texas town of Waxahachie. The lyrics indicate that she has been through a difficult time and is looking for some kind of solace in the arms of this friend. Her troubles are not specified, but it is hinted that she has been running from demons and trying to escape her own memories. The repeated refrain of "Waxahachie" acts as an anchor in the song, reminding the listener of the place where the singer is headed and, perhaps, where she hopes to find some kind of peace.
The song's lyrics are open to interpretation, but they give a sense of the desperation and sorrow that the singer is feeling. She has left a bad situation and is trying to find refuge in the familiar embrace of her old friend. The use of imagery, such as "lipstick letter on the mirror" and "devils in a speeding car," adds depth to the song and makes the listener feel that they are experiencing the singer's journey alongside her. The repetition of the chorus also gives the song a sense of urgency, as if the singer needs to get to Waxahachie as quickly as possible.
