There's a shit ton of evil people out there but keep in mind where there's evil there's the people who are victims of it. The rape victims, bully victims, kidnapping victims, robbery victims, murder victims, etc. are in the shit tons as well.

When I was misanthropic by condemning humanity as a whole in the process, I was rightfully condemning the perpetrators but also wrongfully condemning the victims. See the victims are a part of humanity just as the perpetrators are. The soldier who is drafted to fight a war by the government, a student who is bullied day after day at school by bullies, the guy who get his store robbed by a thug, the innocent civilian that gets murdered by criminal, the partner that gets beaten by their other partner, the taxpayer who is ripped off and oppressed by their government, the innocent person who gets beaten to death by a corrupt cop, etc. These are many victims of many perpetrators.

Misanthropes typically hate humanity for the perpetrators of atrocities but the victims are part of that same humanity. If you only hate humanity for the assholes then why humanity as a whole?

The victims need rescuing and training by the rescuers on how to fight back against evil so as many people can saved from it. Basically rescue as many people as you can, train as many as you can, and continue this task as much as you can.

Knowing all this is the biggest reason I stopped being misanthropic, the other one being all the despair and stress of it.

I just want to save innocent people and fight the guilty. I've done some good but I want to do more.

That's all you can do I think is save as many innocent people as you can and fight as many guilty people as you can.

I grew up in a similar way, more or less. I used to be an introvert, and a kind person. Growing up l understood in the most bitter way that that protective cocoon that my family had built around me, couldn't apply to the outside world.
I had talents, l had special interests, l wanted to create, and alas, all these are considered to be a handicap in the modern society.
I endured many insults, up until there was no place to retreat to.
I had to switch into the aggressive mode.
That aggressiveness though helped me to create the necessary space around me so l could evolve without the interruption of the haters.
I have realized that freedom lies at the mountain top, and that there's room only for one at that top.
That freedom has a price, and the price is either loneliness or solitude.
I have never regretted switching to be a misanthrope.

I am a 47 year old woman and I fall into the antinatalist, nihilist, fugitive, quietist categories. The human race disgusts me as a whole, and the majority of humans I have come into contact with throughout my life have only managed to strengthen my misanthropy. They were sorely lacking in so many ways, be it intellect, integrity, common sense, decency, manners, basic self awareness, empathy for others , that my indifference to them has turned slowly into intense dislike. I only communicate with two specific people on a regular basis and I like it that way.

I wish that would be the reality. As soon as our species advances enough to travel to other planets, which really isn't that far off, there are already viable theories that will slingshot us to other galaxies. But that incredibly viable theory also cements that as a species we will never get to that point without without continuing down the destructive path we've been on post hunter/gatherer. We can just take 1/3 of the minerals from mercury to start building humanities 1st Dyson Swarm. Dyson Swarm leads to unlimited energy while the sun is viable, and that is going to make taking over other solar systems, using the same or more advanced methods, incredibly easy.
If the human animal were to go extinct, it would be the best outcome, but not remotely realistic at this stage.

The for set in when we stopped being Hunter gatherers and settled down to a much easier and sedentary resistance. We became shorter, weaker and our teeth and bones lost their strength. This process is still continuing. I've noticed that there are far more children being born with disabilities and life threatening allergies than ever before, and before the start of this century there weren't nearly as many stomach bugs and lethal flu about as there are now. Our soft lifestyles have destroyed our immune systems.

Covid made my mysanthropy stronger because of the collective paranoia and witch hunt atmosphere. I enjoyed the collective anxiety because the normies thought they were immune to stress and smirked at those who had it. That their kids soccer games and their barbeques could no longer give them comfort gave me great satisfaction. I miss lockdown.

I have to fight daily not to become a destructive misanthrope and since I was a child I feel out of place in this world, I tried to get close to people because my parents believed that was healthy, but during my life I have only become more disgusted with humanity for because of hypocrisy, there is no better definition for human society than HYPOCRISY.

Human nature hasn't changed since antiquity. We're still the same power lusting, narcissistic, and expansionist savages we've always been, and if we were going to figure it out, we would have by now. Technology is only making things worse as idiots receive validation, echo chambers form, and intrinsic moral values decay. Many who try to bring peace throughout history end up assassinated. I personally despise most human behavior because I'm capable of imagining perfection and there is very little perfection around. I'm angry because these fellow human beings who I think should be capable of loving me and each other seem paranoid, afraid, distrusting, manipulative, selfish, and all sorts of other nasty qualities born of fear. It doesn't work to yell at a frightened animal so I largely avoid most people. I don't hate people. I long for intimacy, love, and connection with them. When I don't get it (which is almost always) I'm angry. So, I don't think I hate people. I idolize them. They routinely disappoint me and then I'm angry in my disappointment. Anyway, I'm writing this for myself. It helps me think through my thoughts/feelings.

A lot of problems can be solved if people tried to be better. They don't. What they do is they pass on their hurt to others and they pass it on to others. With all due respect this is behavior of how a five year old would act, but I can definitely come to terms with the way you let humans impel your view towards them. Personally I wouldn't say that my life is centered only upon the pursuit of intimacy & love, but it's more so clarity & understanding that society can build structure for & it's dense in shallow waters to form a grounded relationship in like mindedness instead of egotistical alternatives being valued over virtue. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, but I'm definitely left out of common social patterns having to deal with conflicting forces & taking shit from people who aren't even in my range of a critical discussion but would rather get angry at opposing viewpoints, so I just leave it alone & avoid everyone at all costs because they do what they can, I do what I want. My misanthropy was born from a tremendous level of social abuse I suffered as a child. It's considered normal for people to get teased; I still have physical scars that remind me, every time I happen to glance at myself, what happens when I am vulnerable. Worst of all, a few adult leaders of certain religious groups actively supported those who went after me because I am the kind of headstrong that will break a brick wall after a while with only my cranium and religious indoctrination is a paper bag to me. I thrive knowing that somehow, somewhere my continued existence is success enough to spite someone to the grave.

I think I've earned the right to be generally distrustful of people. I think I've earned the right to call out whatever I think is bullshit. I think I've earned the right to point out the obvious double-standards and peel those scabs until they're sore with puss and blood until stitches are finally applied.

I don't like people, the majority (at least that I've noticed throughout my life), their entire self is full of dishonesty and deceit, most are backstabbers, most are passive aggressive and gain pleasure from ill spirited gossip. Many have sadistic behaviours, most are materalistic, many are power trippers and most are status seeking. Most stick their nose in your business, even complete strangers. Most people are unpeaceful, lack morals, are petty and self obsessed. Genuine people are a rarity. Most people are living a lie but they're miserable deep inside and behind that mask they wear in public to hide the ugliness they know isn't socially accepted. Most hide their misery with dependencies on excess alcohol consumption, tobacco, prescription drugs and illegal ones, anything to block out reality because their mask becomes heavier each hour. They are threatened by kind people because they only act kind when they want something from someone and can't comprehend some people are just kind because want to live in harmony and have a conscience. Good intentioned people exist but they are generally difficult to come across for some quite obvious reasons which makes humanity seem worse than what it is. When I'm on my own I'm always in good spirits unless I think about the people I have described. Unfortunately it's 2022, I have to work and study to boost my chances of survival, this involves being among people, people I don't want anything to do with in any capacity, people that drain my energy. Simultaneously holding strong positive and negative evaluations of humankind is characteristic of ambivalence. I understand this. I am a Misanthrope, i dislike humanity as a species and what we do with our intellectual potential but there are humans within that i like. I may not like the species but it doesn’t necessarily mean i’m out to get my fellow Humans, i’m just disappointed with current social progress and how opinions are the driving force of a majority of the population. I'm definitely a fugitive misanthrope now, wasn't always that way. Used to be quite sociable, was in bands and enjoyed interactions with my peer groups (birth-mid 20's. I'm 58 now). Over the years that gradually changed. For me it's due to a few anxiety spectrum disorders (medicated and regular therapy for over 10 years now) tempered heavily with how self-involved, and ideological, the majority of humanity has become over the decades. Or I just started noticing it more.
I can count on 1 hand how many people I trust, and another 5 acquaintances I can only spend short amounts of time with. Quality>quantity. The friend I've known longest, I've only known for 7yrs. No need for details, but even my parents and siblings were told to take a hike almost 30yrs ago. To say I don't "suffer fools" is a huge understatement.

I moved thousands of kilometers away so there'd be no possibility of them ever making it out here. Because they were also incredibly manipulative, I couldn't take the chance of them getting that info from any of my friends back home, so stopped contacting them as well. Sucks starting all over somewhere you know nobody, but that changes as time passes. Only negative is you have to build a new support system where you move to. Wouldn't change that decision for anything. It was the best thing I ever did for myself and my mental health.

Fix? Why would you want to fix? Fixing means you acknowledge there is a problem AND you believe you have the solution. I'd say not one person is smart enough to have a solution. Hence, your solution becomes altering things to fit your world view of what is right. As such, the solution becomes a self-centered activity. I'd say you are pulling your way, another is pulling their way etc, hence the world is as it is and as it should be, it doesn't need fixing, if destruction of this planet comes, then let it be. I have fluctuated in my levels of misanthropy over the years. I experienced many medical horrors early in my life and as a result of them still use a wheelchair. I have seen the worst humanity has to offer but also some of the best. I remember the first summer after I got sick looking out the window watching kids play while I sat in isolated misery and I would think about all horrors and injustices I had experienced and the abandonment and it filled me with a deep deep hatred of everything and everyone. I would fantasise about making everyone disappear and everything. I used to say if the sun exploded and everything ceased to be there would not be one tear shed from me. But as I got older my level of hatred changed and became more focused on hating how people can be as opposed to hating humanity in general. I find misanthropy is counter to my Faith in Christ which demands love for others. Love for others is the only thing that has the power to undo all the things that breed misanthropy. If everyone followed Jesus example and loved unconditionally hate would cease and even the worst suffering would be tolerable in the presence of unconditional love. Love is what we earn for, but we get starved of it and we loose ourselves when hunger clouds our hearts.

I was born with a heavy, noticeable physical disability and I've disliked humans ever since I can remember. The amount of abuse, stares, rejections, discrimination, disappointments, uterrly idiotic comments throughout my whole life is what made me a misanthrope. I never felt like I fit in, and to me humans are kind of different species (and it's mutual, people don't see me as human either so at least we agree on something). I don't know what type I am but I'm definitily not violent or verbal about it, I'm genuenly a bubbly, postive person (a clown for others) and I don't think anyone is really aware of how disgusted I am with the society in general (and yes that includes strangers too). I love my parents and my brother, and that's about it. But I've came to conclusion that I have a better chance of connecting with a goat then with another person. Some say we need empathy but I disagree; getting rid of it was the best thing I ever did. There is no point in trying to understand someone who will never understand you (and that is 90% of people in my case). I don't HATE humans, I just don't like them. I wish when I was younger I spent more time focusing on just being with myself then trying to fit in, it exhausted me. I was finally happy when I let go and realized what I am, and only now I can truly be at peace and try to enjoy this life by myself (luckily I have money). I am also aganst children (sorry!) but maybe because I'm also asexual, I don't know. But anyways, I fully embrace my misanthropy and I am actually enjoying it.

I'm sorry you've gone through this. I have mental disabilities (MAJOR DEPRESSION & SOCIAL PHOBIA) so it isn't visible to other people but when people are rude to me it's 10X worse. If people only had manners or some decorum but they go through their lives totally oblivious to other people's feelings or civil rights for that matter. Wait for an offense first and then write them off. I haven't emotionally invested myself into any non-romantic relationship for years. People come and go. A sea of acquaintances, no friends. I'm unfailingly pleasant and cordial, but detached if you look deeper. A dog is a welcome sight, the human walking it - not so much.

I'd say I'm around 5% of all the above types, lol! BUT, the driving force behind my misanthropy is that people are WORTHLESS, good-for-nothing humans. Don't get me wrong, I'm not sitting on a high horse, I view myself as stupid and worthless above all, but at least I strive for excellence. So imagine, if I see myself like that, but view over 90% of the people around me as WAY worse than me, so that spawns misanthropy. As a race we have so much knowledge and so much technology, yet what do we do with it? Exactly!
And since you asked a personal question, I started having strong misanthropic feelings as a uni student, when I started to acquire skills, get a better sense of the world around me, started reading philosophy etc... I went through a very good time in my life, when I was having a hell of a time, achieving great things (for me) and I put misanthropy away for a while, learning to ignore stupidity around me and push forward helped as well. Then things went out of hand for a bit (insane partner) and step by step misanthropy came back. I also started to get really agitated by seeing all the worthless people around me as well.
And to answer the second part of your question, I am here because I was setting up a new PC, opened Mozilla, went on YouTube to check if the network works properly, and typed "misanthropy" as this is the first thing that came to mind, then clicked on your video. Guess I've been having thoughts about it in the back of my mind for a while...

How I understand you. I grew up a decent person with high moral values, I was taught ethics and etiquette, I grew up in a religious family, and I myself was a humble, polite person who tried to resolve conflicts peacefully through diplomacy and mutual respect, but it is all hollow to those who have no respect for morals and rules, and if they dominate physically, socially or economically over the rest of the people.
This is the brutal reality, so I have changed my values, adapted and realized that I have to communicate with most people in the language of force, aggression and conflict. Although, of course, I still continue to respect those people who are idealistic, share my views, hobbies, or may have a different opinion based on respect. I am ready to protect and love such people, and this is what keeps me from completely hating the man, although I myself am no longer a romantic or idealist, but rather an atheist with a cynical view of the world.
Otherwise, I sincerely wish you good and happiness in a world where villains practically rule in society and in nature. I hope that someday mankind will be rid of its vices or burn in a nuclear fire, which is more likely.

I just look at what we have as a species have done to the world and each other and how we’re simply a self serving blight on this planet and I can’t help but hate humankind… I see the beauty in humans as individuals but collectively we are an absolute abomination. How we abuse this beautiful planet we live on and our fellow animals is nothing short of evil because to us nothing matters but are own needs (much like what a parasite does to its host). I don’t see any other animal capable of the evil that human beings are capable of. There’s nothing scarier than our own minds and our greed and selfishness. I believe this mindset of mine is a result of watching true crime and learning more and more about the true nature of how we operate as a society… how we farm animals (promising never land brought this to my attention), how we keep ignoring the reality of the situation in terms of the environment and how we kill and destroy so much every single day we infect this planet and how at the end of the day what we do (no matter how charitable) is for ourselves… I can’t help but agree with agent smith in the matrix when he said that humans aren’t a mammal but rather a virus… a disease that needs to be eradicated. We seem to be oblivious to the fact that we are nothing but an insignificant speck of the planets history, of the universes history yet we glorify ourself to such a disgusting extent. I know it’s rather hypocritical for me to say all this despite enjoying a first world lifestyle with food, shelter, education and a loving family but we need to replace our cancerous relationship with this planet with a healthy and productive one before it’s too late or else the guilt will eventually eat all our successors alive.

I speak for myself. Not for others. I've been a misanthrope since childhood. It began with with parental abandonment. Then physical, mental and emotional abuse. Separation from my siblings. Social alienation in school. In my teens and young 20s. I was a hateful person. I think I was teetering on being homicidal. As life continued, varying factors came and changed my outlook. Im now in my 30s. I dont want to hurt anyone. I dont want to be a monsters my parents and society tried to turn me into. That would mean they win. I think misanthropy mostly stems from one common denominator. Betrayal. Repeated betrayal. Hatred stems from love and fear. We once had hope and love for people, but people destroyed it. Many times over. We were the victim, but we can be dangerously close to becoming the people we despise. I don't want that. This is why I delve into science. I seek a way to make myself into a society. So to speak. To rewrite my genes. To start with my social genes. The genes that make me a herd animal. To simplify. No longer suffer from the physical, emotional and mental decline from extreme isolation. To become a god. Because a god is independent from all things. A real god. Not the nonsense of religion. I think most misanthropes want to feel safe and free. Mostly free. I don't know if a group of misanthropes can cooperate, but if we could. It would be in the context of a safety net. We are solitary, but we band together to deal with outside threats. Maybe not. I don't want to destroy humanity or society. I want absolute independence.

Im definitely a fugitive. Fear and anxiety rule my life and being around others and having to interact with them is by far the scariest. A single person might be kind, calm, and rational. But people as a whole are panicky, sneaky, and violent. Nothing makes me more nervous than being in a group. Whenever someone starts talking to me, my first thought is "how are you going to make my day worse?"

most of these are not types of misanthropy. some aren't even remotely related (e.g. "knowledge is impossible" aka radical skepticism, nihilists of which there are many kinds). most people who hold those views are not misanthropes. as I see it, there are two major types of misanthropes: cognitive and what I call malevolent misanthropes. cognitive misanthropes have a belief that humanity (or a substantial part) is evil but often do not have ill feelings (hate, disgust, fear, etc) or an ill will towards humanity. malevolent misanthropes actually hate, fear, are disgusted, despise humanity. the former has a belief without feelings while the later harbors feelings.

It's an interesting paradox: love animals, but hate humans (E.g. I generally love birds, but dislike many humans I encounter). It seems like too much intelligence is potentially a bad thing.

With all due respect, I think you are wrong! I really do not know your life experience; to put it bluntly, all the suffering you have seen and survived, I do not know them. But people who support anti-natalism have a biased or merely wrong perspective on the human experience in the world. Life can be suffering, painful, and cruel, but if it is that cruel and harsh then why there are 8 billion people living in this world? If it was mostly or solely cruel there would be colossal suicides and maybe even homicides. But life is more than just a cruel, unjust, or meaningless thing. You can and you must create meaning. Yes, the probability of successful creation of meaning might not be a lot. But think about all the times you laughed and enjoyed, and think about the moments when you felt that you are being loved and supported. Those are happy instances, or at least mostly happy. So life is also happiness and enjoyment. And the likelihood of our babies appreciating and enjoying life in this dark world that we are trying to illustrate is actually quite high. By the way, in short, I am also some sort of misanthrope, and I am not trying to push some sort of religious sentiment/agenda. In fact, I think religion is not good in general, but it is a different conversation to have.

@@Photonetheous Well I think that life will bring suffering in any capacity and that if procreate willingly you, are selfish. The state of nothingness is in the middle for me, not bad, not good but just right (and preferred).

Nonetheless, people will still make these decisions and people will have different views on the subject based on what they value (suffering in any capacity, happiness in any capacity, or nothing).
And that’s when I go back to being a misanthrope.

@@adt4025 I am the biggest hater of the selfishness, but it does not mean that I am not a selfish person.I do not have a degree in philosophy but I have been taking philosophy classes consistently since I was a freshman. I am saying all these merely for the sake of asserting that I have thought about selfishness more than anyone around me. But I completely disagree with you in terms of "procreating willing is selfishness".

With all due respect, I suppose your argument is more sentimental than rational. Again, if life was suffering for I and you, it does not mean it is suffering for others. If it was full of suffering as we think, there would be colossal suicides and even homicides. Yes, in some cases, people decide to have a child merely to move (so-called) to the next level of their life. But not everyone does that. And even if that is the case, it is not pure selfishness.

Moreover, life without selfishness is equal to the non-existence or demise of humanity. We all are alive because of that feeling or maybe a vice called selfishness. Thus, one must not endeavor to eradicate selfishness completely, but perhaps lower the level of selfishness to the healthiest minimum which is really hard to explain in a few words, and extremely difficult to achieve on a societal level.

im a female in my twenties and ive always never liked people, but never to the point of wanting to cause harm. I am not a peace maker though. i fall mostly into the fugitive and quietist. I also have never cared for children, i think many parents do not care to discipline them anymore and i draw a line where someones child is the reason i cant sleep at night because the parents feel them screaming is fine. if you're going to have them at least understand others are here too

I would say I fall under fugitive misanthrope and quietest misanthrope. I personally don't like our sheep mentality and our human psychology. Then there's social pressure and our hypocracy and our me me me state of mind that everything about being around other people is annoying. If I'm being honest there's some fear there too, but mostly anger. I also understand why people would be antinatalists as well

I distrust almost everyone, I hate almost everyone and I know that Humans will always be this way because this is what history has teached us. Every human has a tendency to love and enjoy power, but only a very small amount of people are actually able to have this power without becoming corrupt. Unfortunately with the end of absolute monarchies and the raise of constitutional monarchies and democratic Republics many of this people find themselves with a lot of power over a lot of other people and in the end they all become corrupt. I always loved feudal systems simply because there's not the majority of the lambs that decide the future but those that have rosed to leadership and their descendants. I know that even with this system there is still a lot of corruption but there's at least one path that is followed and carried until the very end which makes it easier to find order. I don't believe that everything human is bad because there are a lot of values that were practiced and are still being practiced today albeit less often that are extremely positive such as honour and loyalty. Humans do have the capacity to have good moral and ethical values, the problem is that these values demand effort and sacrifice and most humans prefer to follow the easier way. Which is also what condemns humans to being nothing more than simple lambs.
Humans destroy more then they construct and this can also be seen throughout the entire human history. Humans are deeply flawed but instead of working on correcting such flaws they keep deepening them. As always there are the exception to the rule and I do love some people, but these people even flawed they showed their value to me and I allowed them to enter my life. The became worthy through effort just as much as I did with them. I do have the capacity to love, but when it comes to Humans I severely hate them because I can't find any reasons not to. People nanage to get on my nerve just by being themselves and that is simply the way it is. But I do not seek the destruction of all humans. I am able to hate and distrust without needing to destroy. I'm also not against having children because it doesn't make any sense, and the true meaning of any living being is to reproduce and make sure that their species carries out with its existence, this is scientific. I don't believe that this society will get any better but there will be a day in the far future, when Humanity managed to destroy almost everything, that a different kind of society will raise from the ashes. If I don't produce offspring what hope can I keep for such a future. I believe that in order for a society to prosper it must remain small. We can see the degeneracy of of people in huge societies, it's simply disgusting. There are a lot of tension and not enough people to keep the order of such absurd amounts of people. As an example we can compare a major American city with a small American town. Places where the population is under 1000 there are usually less crime and people tend to be more helpful with eachother. This doesn't come with other problems of course but those are easier to deal with than the problems from a huge city. There can be big civilazations but there must be a lot of space in between the societies of such civilazation. The mixture of cultures is also a spawn of problems and every civilazation should maintain their superiority inside itself and not allow other cultures from growing too much in itself. There are ways for people to interact and get the best from such interactions with different cultures but the world is huge and there is a lot of space for different cultures to coexist without merging together. I'm not saying that we shouldn't be able to go move through the world and experience different cultures, what Im saying is that when it comes to the coexistence of 2 or more cultures in a small space, problems are bound to happen because humans can't coexist with different kinds of humans for long periods of time. This is exactly why there's still racism in the 21st century. Imagine this. A town of culture 1 and a town of culture 2 each town with approximately 750 people. The towns are separated by 25 miles. It's close enough that people from one town can travel to the other town and back several times a day. Now there's a maximum of 15 humans in each town that belong to the different culture. Most of the interactions of this 2 cultures happen when some members of one travel to the other to trade or to learn or something like that. But each culture keeps on acting in their own way with their own rules. So when someone goes to the other he must act accordingly. And since it's always a small amount that goes through at a time each cultures manages to keep it superiority over the other in their own towns. This is a way of managing multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is not putting everyone in the same sack and expecting them to act normal. Because which culture's normal is the normal that should be followed? And here is when the problems start. Since humans can't even understand simple concepts like this its futile to even make an effort to like people. But someday in the future like I said. There may be something build on this sort of foundation and then humans may start to become better instead of worse. But since that would only be possible in a very long time and I'm going to be dead by then, there's really no reason for me to even worry about it. I'll focus on my own objectives that I can achieve and on the things I can control.
More than that doesn't make sense. Which means that I have no faith in humanity as it is today. Therefore I consider myself a misanthrope.

I not only agree with this but would also add that many of the 'anti-human' misanthropes have taken over a lot of the modern social movements in the west.
