This one is Mishka Frith.… Read Full Bio ↴There is more than one band called Mishka.
This one is Mishka Frith. Like his older sister, singer/songwriter Heather Nova (born Heather Frith), pop-reggae singer Mishka grew up at sea, traveling from island to island in the West Indies on his Canadian mother and Bermudian father's sailboat, where he received most of his education and listened to whatever music he could. When his parents returned to Canada, he completed school and returned to the Caribbean, eventually becoming a competitive windsurfer and representing Bermuda at international meets. In the meantime, he had also taken up songwriting, and he chanced to meet and impress Creation Records head Alan McGee with his vocal ability in late 1996; with prodding from Nova, Mishka was signed to a record contract the following year. His eponymous debut album, a mix of pop, reggae, soul, and singer/songwriter folk-rock, was released in 1999.
The other Mishka is from Ireland, currently living in America. Fronted by Lauren Norton. They have one EP - 47 Varieties Of Hindsight. Myspace: www.myspace.com/mihskamusik
Bring A Man Down
Mishka Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Life goes on and they're still sayin', no love remains
Well, a beatin' heart ain't broken
That's just what's spoken by the rumors
And they're only around to bring a man down
To bring a man down, down, down
Longin' to see the day, when we shall be as one
With no divisions on the Earth
That bring the life down, that bring the life down
Yeah, that bring the life down
It seems I'm waitin', waitin' for the day
And we're already won a realization that the time
Is here and right now, you're here and right now
You're here and right now
A beatin' heart ain't broken
That's just what's spoken by the rumors
And they're only around to bring a man down
To bring a man down, down, down
In "Bring A Man Down" by Mishka, the singer addresses people who play games with others' emotions and perpetuate the belief that love doesn't exist anymore. He expresses his frustration with this mentality, insisting that just because someone has a beating heart doesn't mean it's broken. Mishka sees through the rumors and knows that there is still hope for love to exist in the world. He prays for the day when there will be no divisions on Earth, and everyone will be united as one. Despite feeling as though he is waiting for this day to arrive, he acknowledges that the time is here and now, and that people need to start living in the present and actively working towards a more unified future.
The lyrics center around the idea that there are people who actively seek to bring others down, whether that be through playing games or spreading rumors. These negative attitudes can create a toxic environment that can "bring the life down." However, Mishka counters this with his message of hope and unity. The line "a beating heart ain't broken" is a powerful statement that suggests that people should not let negative attitudes bring them down or convince them that love is no longer possible. Instead, they should focus on the positive aspects of life and work towards creating a better world.
