This one is Mishka Frith.… Read Full Bio ↴There is more than one band called Mishka.
This one is Mishka Frith. Like his older sister, singer/songwriter Heather Nova (born Heather Frith), pop-reggae singer Mishka grew up at sea, traveling from island to island in the West Indies on his Canadian mother and Bermudian father's sailboat, where he received most of his education and listened to whatever music he could. When his parents returned to Canada, he completed school and returned to the Caribbean, eventually becoming a competitive windsurfer and representing Bermuda at international meets. In the meantime, he had also taken up songwriting, and he chanced to meet and impress Creation Records head Alan McGee with his vocal ability in late 1996; with prodding from Nova, Mishka was signed to a record contract the following year. His eponymous debut album, a mix of pop, reggae, soul, and singer/songwriter folk-rock, was released in 1999.
The other Mishka is from Ireland, currently living in America. Fronted by Lauren Norton. They have one EP - 47 Varieties Of Hindsight. Myspace: www.myspace.com/mihskamusik

Oh jah I need a lift yeah
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your own homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your own homegrown
So green, so clean
Even since you was a little seed
So green, so clean
Youll be there on the scene
Even if it's time to reap yeah
Deserve this irie healing
It give I such an irie feeling
Deserve this irie healing
It give I such an irie feeling
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your own homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your own homegrown
So green, so clean
You been there on the scene
Even since you was a little seed yeah
So green, so clean
You been there on the scene
Even when it's time to reap yeah
Now some say that it's the Maui Waui,
And some say that it's Jamaican Cali,
Some say amsterdam Sensi's the best,
Some say you can't taste the west,
But I say, I say, I say, I say
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your own homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your own homegrown
So free up the herbs, man
Free up the earth
Free up the herbs, man
Free up the earth yeah
Free up, free up, free up jah, my marijuana
Aaah
Free up, free up, free up all the flora and fauna
It would be an honour yeah
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your own homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
Nothing so sweet as your own homegrown
So green, so clean
You been there on the scene
Even since you was a little seed yeah
So green, so clean
You been there on the scene
Even when it's time to reap yeah
Nothing so sweet as your homegrown
The song "Homegrown" by Mishka is an ode to the healing powers of marijuana, specifically the sweet taste and effects of one's own homegrown cannabis. The lyrics proclaim "nothing so sweet as your own homegrown" and celebrate the purity and naturalness of the herb. The song opens with the singer expressing a need for a lift, and the chorus repeats the sentiment that nothing tastes as good or makes one feel as good as one's own homegrown marijuana.
The lyrics go on to describe the plant itself as "so green, so clean" and declare that it has been present "since [it] was a little seed." The singer claims that this "irie healing" provides such an "irie feeling," and that it deserves to be celebrated and freed up. The song shifts to a discussion of different strains of marijuana, with different regions claiming their own type is the best, but the singer ultimately emphasizing that nothing compares to one's own homegrown. The song closes with a repeated request to "free up" marijuana and all the flora and fauna that share the planet.
Overall, "Homegrown" is a celebration of the healing and rejuvenating potential of marijuana, particularly when grown oneself. The lyrics emphasize the naturalness and purity of the herb, as well as the need for its legalization and freedom from oppression.
