Good Morning Heartache
Miss Henry Lyrics

Good morning heartache, thought we said goodbye last night
I turned and tossed until it seemed you had gone
But here you are with the dawn
Wish I'd forget you, but you're here to stay
It seems I met you when my love went away
Now everyday I start by saying to you
Stop haunting me now
Can't chase you no how
Just leave me alone
I've got those Monday blues
Straight through Sunday blues
Good morning heartache, here we go again
Good morning heartache, you're the one who knew me when
Might as well get used to you hanging around
Good morning heartache, sit down
Stop haunting me now
Can't chase you no how
Just leave me alone
I've got those Monday blues
Straight through Sunday blues
Good morning heartache, here we go again
Good morning heartache, you're the one who knew me when
Might as well get used to you hanging around
Good morning heartache, sit down
The song “Good Morning Heartache” by Billie Holiday has been covered by numerous artists, including Diana Ross and Nina Simone, but Miss Henry’s rendition adds a modern twist to the classic song. The lyrics portray a familiar feeling of heartbreak that one experiences after losing a loved one. The opening line, “Good morning heartache, you old gloomy sight,” sets the tone for the rest of the song. Heartache is personified as an entity that is always present, and the singer acknowledges that it will always be a part of her life.
The singer reveals that she thought she said goodbye to heartache the night before, but it reappears with the dawn. The line “Wish I'd forget you, but you're here to stay” expresses the feeling of wanting to move on from the heartache but being unable to do so. The lyrics also suggest that heartache serves as a constant reminder of the love that was lost. The singer acknowledges that heartache will always be a part of her life and she has to learn to live with it, “Might as well get used to you hanging around, Good morning heartache, sit down.”
Overall, the lyrics to “Good Morning Heartache” beautifully describe the feeling of heartbreak and the inability to escape it. The repeated chorus emphasizes that heartache will always be present, but ultimately, one must learn to coexist with it.
