Saints
Miss May I Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All the saints, the sinners, and greats
Have always surrendered in their time of fate
I'll take my name and make history
Not being cowards they wanted for me
I'll retrace my steps
Find where I have fallen
Bury those trenches
Walking over with glory

All the saints (all the saints), the sinners, and greats
Will be gone (gone)
Gone one day
I will not abide to the times
Refusing to look up to someone with power
My bones are comparable
But we are, covered in the storms

We live unbalanced
Covered in the shadows
Born to be fools
Adoring lost souls
All the saints (all the saints), the sinners, and greats

Will be gone (gone)
Gone one day

Overall Meaning

The song "Saints" by Miss May I tells the story of a person who refuses to adhere to society's expectations and instead paves their own path towards success. The opening lyrics mention "saints, sinners, and greats," referring to individuals throughout history who have all surrendered to their fate, but this person wants to make a name for themselves through their own courageous efforts. Instead of being a coward, they want to be remembered as someone who overcame obstacles and made history. The line "I'll retrace my steps, find where I have fallen, bury those trenches, walking over with glory" indicates that this person is determined to overcome any failures or setbacks and achieve success.

The next set of lyrics mentions how everyone will eventually die, regardless of whether they were saints, sinners, or greats. However, the singer chooses to focus on their own journey rather than looking up to those in positions of power. They acknowledge that they are comparable to others in terms of their physical makeup ("my bones are comparable"), but they are also covered in "storms," a metaphor for difficulties and challenges in life that everyone faces.

The final set of lyrics speaks to the human experience of feeling unbalanced, being covered in shadows, and admiring lost souls. Despite these hardships, the singer remains determined to make their own mark on the world. The repetition of the line "all the saints, the sinners, and greats will be gone one day" reinforces the fleeting nature of life and underscores the singer's desire to make the most of their time.

@RainbowSkillz

I love the feel of this song, every song on the album should've looked at this song. It had the fast-paced drumming, the guitar riffs of the first two albums, and the vocals were good just only needed a few other types. Other than that I enjoyed this song!
