Wish
Missile Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I Wish I had a story to tell

I Wish I knew the story of the cardboard man,

Or the Talking filmcanister, Or the Spoon that Moved

I Wish I knew the one about the wise guru
Or the honest Lizard

I wish I knew about the dog that dressed like a cat,

Or the mule that walked like rock

Or the tornado who swam like a statue of Carmen Miranda

I Wish I knew all these stories or had the inclination to make them up

I Wish I could sit on soft pillows and drink molten lava

I Wish I could make love to the sky

I Wish I could eat the corn of Joy and Sorrow

I Wish the sky was green and my body was bright blue

I Wish I could talk sideways and backwards

I Wish I could drive the tractor of Innocence and return the the life I never

knew

I Wish I could drink chocolate champaigne

I Wish I had that Fax Number

I Wish I nothing could mean something and that everbody could have everything

Some wishes come true

Some of this wishes will come true

Others, are destined to become dreams deferred,

Shriveling up like grapes with sun tans,

But all is not lost,

No, all is not lost, not yet

I Wish I had 3 eyes, but of course, I have 3 eyes

I have clavoyant paranoia

I have precogant disetence

I have many other ways of seeing at my disposal

I have a garbage disposal, dinner plans and dog bisquets

I have many many options and a strong sense that freedom comes with in

But I shall never find it

Freedom is lost, Failure is just around the corner and the only thing that

Consoles me is the sound of my voice, and the fact that I don't cut myself

Shaving as I used too

Overall Meaning

The song "Wish" by Missile is a contemplation on the power of imagination and the limitations of reality. The lyrics express the desire to invent stories and myths, to create impossible scenarios and to experience the world in extraordinary ways. The singer wishes he could know the tales of strange creatures and objects, from the talking filmcanister to the honest lizard. He longs for the ability to see the sky as green and his own body as bright blue, to talk sideways and backwards, and to drive the tractor of innocence. He also wishes for more sensory pleasures, such as drinking molten lava, making love to the sky, and eating the corn of joy and sorrow.

However, the singer also acknowledges the impossibility of some of these wishes and the fact that many dreams are destined to remain unrealized. He compares them to grapes with sun tans, shriveling up and becoming dreams deferred. Still, he clings to the hope that some of his wishes will come true and that he can find freedom and meaning in his own way.

The song emphasizes the importance of imagination as a way to transcend mundane reality and create new possibilities. It encourages listeners to embrace their own creativity and to cultivate a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world. At the same time, it also recognizes the limitations of these dreams and the necessity of finding meaning in the present moment.

King Missile were an amazing band and it's a real shame such great music has gone largely unrecognised and has fallen into obscurity. It might sound strange since most people think of KM as just a comedy act, but their music, especially the album 'They' was a turning point in my life. KM have honestly helped me through some difficult times and I'm sure they will continue to be my remedy for a long time.

I agree. Saw them back in '93 in Michigan. Met John. The show changed my life.

Artemis Vega

Absolutely. John S Hall has an amazing ability to look at things like some demented surreal poet. I had a chat to him once, long ago on Mypace and it was just a bit casualness that was out of this world. Just ten minutes with a cool dude with a great perspective. I'll always treasure that as simple as it was. This is an excellent song and almost totally KM3, it's only lacking Murdoch. King Missile are so underrated, particularly the Rick/Xefos/Hall incarnation, which is often like mad, really well done Jazz metal. Or something. This song has a philosophical edge like Ed.

I love them. I discovered them in 1994.

Truth is the best medicine

They are the furthest thing from a comedy act, I agree. I consider them to be one of the greatest groups in American history, and I've listened to their entire oeuvre. Been a fan for 14 years now, and have gotten to know the lead singer digitally.

I think this is King Missile's best-sounding song

But all is not lost. No. All is not lost. Not yet.ย  Great song.

Prince Westerburg

The recordings on their albums are just amazing - would love to know about their miking and amps choices, but it probably lost in the mists of time, which they rented in for the session...

I consider the singer of this band to be a friend of mine, and he has added so much to the world. I'm glad to know John Hall. :)
