Elliott is one of the first female hip hop superstars, known for a long series of hits including "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)", "Hit 'Em Wit Da Hee", "Get Ur Freak On", "One Minute Man", "Work It", and "Lose Control". In addition she has received recognition as one of the most successful songwriters of the modern music era, having crafted a number of hit records for artists such as Aaliyah, 702, Total, Ciara, Nicole Wray and Tweet, often with production-partner and childhood friend Timbaland. She was the third female rapper to ever go Platinum, behind Lil' Kim and Da Brat.
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, she began her career in the all-girl R&B group, Sista in 1993. Eventually, the band folded and Elliott began her career as a solo rapper. Since the early 1990's, Elliott has won six Grammys, recently scoring one for her video of "Lose Control."
Other releases are 'Teary Eyed' and 'We Run This', and the last of these two songs will be the main single of the new greatest hits album titled 'Respect M.E.: Best Of' featuring 17 tracks from her six albums.
Throw Your Hands Up
Missy Elliott Lyrics

Yo, this the Queen Bee,
And I came to say a little something
On my girl Missy shit!
Now see I got something to say.
That's right I got a problem.
I got a problem wit' all ya'll muthafuckers out there,
Yeah that's right I said it muthafucker, Bitch!
What?!
Ya see bitch is a strong word,
And only strong bitches can use that muthafuckin' terminology!
BITCH!
I mean if you can't wear the name,
Then don't try to use it...
Shucks!
[Missy]
Throw ya hands up if you like to get high
Make a phat beat so we can party all night
If you got beef you gotta take it outside
Throw you're wrists up and lemme see you're ice shine
(x2)
The song "Throw Your Hands Up" is a collaboration between Missy Elliott and Lil' Kim. The lyrics begin with Lil' Kim making a statement about calling oneself a "bitch." She defends those who use the word, stating that only strong women are able to use that kind of terminology. She challenges those who cannot handle the term to simply not use it. The song then transitions to Missy Elliott's chorus, which encourages people to throw their hands up and have a good time. The lyrics call for everyone to make a phat beat and dance all night, but also emphasize the importance of handling conflict outside of the party setting.
The song is a lighthearted party anthem, but also carries an important message about self-empowerment and owning one's identity. Through Lil' Kim's comments, the song encourages women to embrace their strength and assertiveness. At the same time, the emphasis on handling conflict outside of the party setting extends to a message of responsibility and maturity. Missy Elliott's chorus keeps the song light and fun, but also celebrates individuality and self-expression.
