Ten Days
Missy Higgins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So we've put an end to it this time.
I'm no longer yours and you're no longer mine.
You said this hill looks far too steep
If I'm not even sure it's me you want to keep.
And it's been ten days without you in my reach,
And the only time I've touched you is in my sleep.

But time has changed nothing at all
You're still the only one that feels like home.
I've tried cutting the ropes and
I let you go but you're still the only one
That feels like home.

You won't talk me into it next time,
If I'm going away your hearts coming too.
'Cause I miss your hands I miss your face.
When I get back let's disappear without a trace.

'Cause it's been ten days without you in my reach,
And the only time I've touched you is in my sleep.

But time has changed nothing at all
You're still the only one that feels like home.
I've tried cutting the ropes,
Tried letting go but you're still the only one
That feels like home.

So tell me, did you really think
Oh tell me, did you really think
I had gone when you couldn't see me anymore?
When you couldn't

'Cause baby time has changed nothing at all
You're still the only one that feels like home.
And I've tried cutting the ropes,
I let you go but you're still the only one
That feels like home, yeah,
You're still the only one that feels like home,

You're still the only one I've gotta love.
Oh yeah

Overall Meaning

The song "Ten Days" by Missy Higgins is a heart-wrenching ballad about a breakup and the lingering feelings that come with it. The song starts off with the singer acknowledging that the relationship has ended, with the lyrics "So we've put an end to it this time. I'm no longer yours and you're no longer mine." The singer then describes how she's tried to move on from the relationship but finds herself unable to, singing "But time has changed nothing at all, You're still the only one that feels like home."

The lyrics continue with the singer recounting how she's tried to forget about the relationship, but the person she's broken up with still holds an important place in her heart. She sings "I've tried cutting the ropes and I let you go, but you're still the only one that feels like home." The song ends with the singer acknowledging that she misses her ex-partner and doesn't want to let go of their relationship completely, with the lyrics "You're still the only one I've gotta love."

Overall, "Ten Days" is a poignant exploration of the lingering feelings that can remain after a relationship ends, and the difficulty of truly moving on. Missy Higgins' emotive vocals and the stripped-back instrumentation of the song enhance the raw emotion of the lyrics.

She deserves so much more recognition. These songs are just so emotionally sophisticated but simple at the same time.

@MsRedrockerfan

I saw her for the first time in SLC, UT, she opened up for Anna Nalick and Howie Day. She showed up with her little keyboard and her first guitar she bought. She blew me away. I left my seat before her last song so I was first in line to buy her Sound of White CD and meet her. She is adorable. Had her cd in my car for months...all of my 4 girls had the cd memorized too. Missy, you are a true talent and your songs have got me though some really rough times. THANK YOU!

@apotheticallyautistic73

Why on earth is this amazing artist so under rated.

@swissshepherd1186

She’s not, only with the rest of the planet that she is!!

@wolflair3329

Give over, she's pretty much unheard of by most. Unknown would be a fairer description and to be honest, if it weren't for platforms like YouTube and Spotify, I'd say more than half the artists I've listened to would have remained unknown and that's probably true for a lot of people. If there's ever a description that's over used it's underated.

@swissshepherd1186

@@wolflair3329 unknown have you listened to The Sound Of White album Brilliant!!

@TassieLorenzo

Missy is fairly well-known in Australia, from her success in that mid-2000s era. To be fair, traditional rock music doesn't chart anywhere any more... The youth (and/or the record labels) gets to decide what charts, and older folks who may prefer traditional drums/bass/guitar/piano pop music don't tend to seek out new music beyond their early 30s. :) PS. If you like Missy Higgins, you might also like Pete Murray: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZB-WAG9lSY Olympia is another Australian artist in her 30s who seems to have fallen through the generation gap, albeit without any success from back in the 00's, her music is more uptempo pop rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0ohpRls7ng
