From Memory
Mistabishi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We used to speak so clear and clean.
Let's go back to ten years old,
When your life was not for sale.
Let's get out of this wasted decade
Cause my skin is going pale...
I remember, when we were children,
We used to speak so clear and clean.
We're all scared of what we need.
I remember, when we were children,
When your life was not for sale.
Let's get out of this wasted decade
Cause my skin is going pale...
The lyrics of Mistabishi's "From Memory" are reflective of the passing of time and the changes that come with it. The singer reminisces about a simpler time when they were children and things were clearer and easier to understand. The use of the phrase "speaking clear and clean" suggests a kind of innocence and purity that the singer longs to return to. However, as they have grown older, something has changed. The words they once spoke so effortlessly are now left unspoken, and there is a sense of fear and anxiety surrounding the desires and needs of the present.
The line "Let's go back to ten years old, when your life was not for sale" is particularly poignant, as it speaks to the loss of childhood innocence and the pressures of adulthood. "Life for sale" suggests that everything is commodified and monetized, including one's own existence. The singer yearns to escape this reality and return to a time when things were more pure and uncomplicated. The repeated line "my skin is going pale" reinforces this sense of loss and mortality, as time continues to march forward without regard for our desires.
Overall, "From Memory" is a wistful and contemplative reflection on the passage of time and the loss of childhood innocence. It speaks to a universal experience of nostalgia and longing for simpler times, while acknowledging the complexities and anxieties of the present.

I remember listening to this song 24/7 when my daughter was born, driving everyday without license to the hospital to visit the mom and my child, I was so happy, almost in euphoria, I was really content. Looking back it must be one of the most precious memories I have.
