Strawberry Blond
Mitski Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When you stood up, walked away barefoot
And the grass where you lay left a bed in your shape
I looked over it and I ached
I love everybody because I love you
I don't need the city, and I don't need proof
All I need, darlin', is a life in your shape
I picture it, soft, and I ache
Look at you, strawberry blond
Reach out the car window tryin' to hold the wind
You tell me you love her, I give you a grin
Oh, all I ever wanted was a life in your shape
So I follow the white lines, follow the white lines
Keep my eyes on the road as I ache
Look at you, strawberry blond
Fields rollin' on
I love it when you call my name
Can you hear the bumblebees swarm?
Watching your arm
I love it when you look my way
Look at you, strawberry blond
Fields rollin' on
I love it when you call my name
Can you hear the bumblebees swarm?
Watching your arm
I love it when you look my way
Look at you, strawberry blond
Fields rollin' on
I love it when you call my name
Can you hear the bumblebees swarm?
Watching your arm
I love it when you look my way
Isaiah, Isaiah, Isaiah
Isaiah, Isaiah, Isaiah
The lyrics of Mitski's song "Strawberry Blond" revolves around the feeling of being deeply in love with someone and wanting to share every moment of one's life with that person. In the first verse, Mitski talks about how she loves everyone because they remind her of the person she loves. She describes a scene where the person she loves leaves, and she is left behind, surrounded by the grass where they lay. This scene aches her heart because it's a reminder of the person's absence. Mitski doesn't need anything else in her life but to be with this person and have a life with them.
The second part of the song describes Mitski driving with her loved one, watching fields roll by. She loves every detail about this person, including the way they call her name, the sound of bumblebees when they are together. Mitski enjoys watching the person and basking in the moments they spend together. The song ends with the name "Isaiah" repeated, emphasizing on a particular person, maybe someone she loves or misses.

Moon, a hole of light
Through the big top tent up high
Here before and after me
Shinin′ down on me
Moon, tell me if I could
Send up my heart to you?
So, when I die, which I must do
Could it shine down here with you?
Cause my love is mine, all mine
I love, mine, mine, mine
Nothing in the world belongs to me
But my love, mine, all mine, all mine
My baby here on earth
Showed me what my heart was worth
So, when it comes to be my turn
Could you shine it down here for her?
Cause my love is mine, all mine
I love, mine, mine, mine
Nothing in the world belongs to me
But my love, mine, all mine
Nothing in the world is mine for free
But my love, mine, all mine, all mine

i think for me i interpret this as how i’ve accepted my sadness and anxiety, at this point i even cause more pain for myself on purpose. i just observe it and don’t do anything and even if i do i just make everything worse and if i somehow feel better im disappointed spreading more fire to watch and observe.
