In spring 2011, Lignell attended the audition for the 8th season of the singing competition "Idol 2011" on Swedish TV channel TV4. On the first audition, she sang the own composed song "When I Held Ya". Since then, the Swedish audience and jury fell in love with Moa and her song. Lignell was selected as one of the eleven contestants in the final contest.
On the semi final in Scandinavium, Gothenburg on December 2, 2011, she was voted out and finished in 3rd place.

imo she is one of the rare cases where the live versions are actually by far better than the cd. cd is good and all but the industry washed it so clean. she has insane voice control and you can hear what she is trying to put into her songs.
