Moby found commercial and critical success with his fifth album Play (1999), which, after receiving little recognition, became an unexpected global hit in 2000 after each track was licensed to films, television shows, and commercials. It remains his highest selling album with 12 million copies sold. Its seventh single, "South Side", featuring Gwen Stefani, remains his only one to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 14. Moby followed Play with albums of varied styles including electronic, dance, rock, and downtempo music, starting with 18 (2002), Hotel (2005), and Last Night (2008). His later albums saw him explore ambient music, including the almost four-hour release Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep. (2016). Moby continues to record and release albums; his twenty-first studio album, Resound NYC, was released in May 2023.
In addition to his music career, Moby is known for his veganism and support for animal rights and humanitarian aid. He was the owner of TeaNY, a vegan cafe in Manhattan, and Little Pine, a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles, and organized the vegan music and food festival Circle V. He is the author of four books, including a collection of his photography and two memoirs: Porcelain: A Memoir (2016) and Then It Fell Apart (2019).

Evertime You Touch Me
Moby Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Oh, come and take me away
Oh, because everything is wrong today
I look the east, there are colors in the sky
The sun on my face, and oh I've started to cry
Easy Moby on the controls
Because every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born
Every time you touch me I feel like I need some more
Love's all high, never feeling bad
Used to be alone now I feel so glad
'Cause every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born
Anytime you need some peace
Come along, and stay with me
The forest burns, there are fires in the sky
Is everybody under controls?
Because every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born
Every time you touch me I feel like I need some more
Love's all high, never feeling bad
Used to be alone now I feel so glad
'Cause every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born
(Colors in the sky)
One time in the place we've got to be free, come on
One time in the place now come stay with me
Because I pull it to the left, pull it to the right
Massive song, we never uptight
Want everybody just feel alright
Massive chorus to make you excite
Because every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born
(Word's out, come on people)
Every time you touch me I feel like I need some more
(Sound system's rocking myself)
Love's all high, never feeling bad
Used to be alone, now I feel so glad
Every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born
(I am not looking to do that, do it to me)
Because every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born
(Beautiful people, now)
Every time you touch me I feel like I need some more
(Just come to thy self esteem)
Love's all high, never feeling bad
Used to be alone, now I feel so glad
Every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born
(Sound system's rocking myself)
The lyrics to Moby's "Every Time You Touch Me" are about the transformative power of love. The singer is feeling down and overwhelmed by the world, but the touch of his lover brings him new life, making him feel like he's being born again. The verse about looking to the east and seeing colors in the sky suggests a new dawn and a fresh start.
This feeling of being reborn is repeated throughout the song, with the refrain "Every time you touch me I feel like I'm being born." The incredible power of love is emphasized through the use of language like "Love's so high, never feeling bad" and "Used to be alone now I feel so glad." The second verse encourages the listener to come to the singer for peace and to seek shelter from the chaos of the world.
The final verse features rap vocals, which bring a different energy to the song. The lyrics encourage listeners to let go of their worries and inhibitions and just enjoy themselves. The repetition of "mass this song wid dem dat uptight" suggests that the song is meant to be a unifying experience, one that is designed to bring people together and help them forget their differences.
Overall, "Every Time You Touch Me" is a song about the power of love and the transformative effect it can have on our lives. It encourages listeners to seek love and connection with others, and to let go of their worries and fears.
