Going Wrong
Moby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where were you when I was lonesome?
Locked away with freezing cold
Someone flying only stolen
I can't tell this light so old

[Chorus]
I don't want to swim the ocean
I don't want to fight the tide
I don't want to swim forever
When it's cold I'd like to die

What was that my sweet sweet nothing?
I can't hear you through the fog
If I holler let me go
If I falter let me know

[Chorus]
I don't want to swim the ocean
I don't want to fight the tide
I don't want to swim forever
When it's cold I'd like to die

I don't want to swim forever
I don't want to fight the tide
I don't want to swim the ocean
When it's cold I'd like to die

I don't want to swim the ocean
I don't want to fight the tide

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Moby's song "Going Wrong" depict a feeling of loneliness and despair. In the first verse, the singer wonders where their companion was when they were feeling lonely and isolated. They feel trapped in a cold and frozen state, while someone else is seemingly free, flying away only with stolen goods. The singer is unable to understand or decipher the old light that surrounds them.

In the chorus, the singer expresses a desire to escape from their current situation, but they also feel resigned to their fate. They don't want to struggle and fight against the overwhelming forces, but instead, they would rather give up and succumb to their surroundings. The second verse reiterates the singer's confusion and inability to communicate, but they plead for help in their struggle.

The song seems to be a reflection on the internal battle that individuals face when they are feeling overwhelmed and burdened by their internal struggles. It is an expression of the desire to escape but also the feeling of being trapped and helpless. The lyrics are simple yet powerful in their depiction of human emotion.

This is beautiful. For me Moby is an enigma.  I don't really like the harsher, aggressive tracks but in amongst all his albums are buried these gems, really transcendental pieces that are very spiritual in my view and at the very least an acknowledgement of a kind of human angst as we live the bitter sweet nature of life. One day Moby you will need to do an album only of these types of tunes just to make me happy :0)

@sreychheng

Check out his re-release of Hotel: Ambient. I think that you'll like it.

@EuropopTop

thanks do you know how to find it though. I couldn't see it on Amazon or Google play last time I looked and I don't subscribe to Spotify or I-tunes. I don't know if it is just a digital release or CD too

Love this - it's the instrumental from my favourite song Is It Any Wonder by Sophie Ellis Bextor over a different groove. Best track on the album!
