Moby found commercial and critical success with his fifth album Play (1999), which, after receiving little recognition, became an unexpected global hit in 2000 after each track was licensed to films, television shows, and commercials. It remains his highest selling album with 12 million copies sold. Its seventh single, "South Side", featuring Gwen Stefani, remains his only one to appear on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 14. Moby followed Play with albums of varied styles including electronic, dance, rock, and downtempo music, starting with 18 (2002), Hotel (2005), and Last Night (2008). His later albums saw him explore ambient music, including the almost four-hour release Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep. (2016). Moby continues to record and release albums; his twenty-first studio album, Resound NYC, was released in May 2023.
In addition to his music career, Moby is known for his veganism and support for animal rights and humanitarian aid. He was the owner of TeaNY, a vegan cafe in Manhattan, and Little Pine, a vegan restaurant in Los Angeles, and organized the vegan music and food festival Circle V. He is the author of four books, including a collection of his photography and two memoirs: Porcelain: A Memoir (2016) and Then It Fell Apart (2019).

Extreme places I didn't know
I bought everything new again
Everything that I'd owned
I threw it out the windows, came along
Extreme ways I know move apart
The colors of my sea
Perfect color me
Extreme ways that that help me
Help me out at night
Extreme places I had gone
But never seen any light
Dirty basements, dirty noise
Dirty places coming through
Extreme worlds alone
Did you ever like it planned
I would stand in line for this
There's always room in life for this
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Like it always does, always does
Extreme songs that told me
They helped me down every night
I didn't have much to say
I didn't get above the light
I closed my eyes and closed myself
And closed my world and never opened
Up to anything
That could get me along
I had to close down everything
I had to close down my mind
Too many things to cover me
Too much can make me blind
I've seen so much in so many places
So many heartaches, so many faces
So many dirty things
You couldn't believe
I would stand in line for this
It's always good in life for this
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Like it always does, always does
In Moby's song "Love Theme," the lyrics describe the feeling of starting over and the struggle of dealing with the aftermath of a life-altering event. The singer states that extreme ways and places have returned and that they have had to buy everything new again after getting rid of everything they owned. The extreme ways they know have moved apart and the colors of their sea have changed, yet they still desire a perfect color that suits them. The extreme ways help the singer at night, and they have been to extreme places but have never seen any light.
The lyrics then describe the singer's experiences in dirty basements and dirty noise, and coming from dirty places. They mention extreme worlds, feeling alone, and questioning whether others ever liked it planned. The singer has stood in line for something that is always good in life, but it eventually fell apart like it always does. Extreme songs have helped them down every night, but they didn't have much to say and didn't get above the light. The singer closed their eyes, world, and mind, never opening up to anything that could get them along. They had to close down everything and deal with the heartaches, faces, and dirty things that they couldn't believe.

This song from Moby is inspired. But whoever chose the video to go with it deserves huge credit as it gives the music even more meaning.

Uno de los temas más hermosos que escuché en mi vida de uno de los músicos más increíbles que conocí. Lastima moby no es conocido por su bajo perfil y no venderse a la mierda que es la música de ahora.
