New Dawn Fades
Moby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A change of scenes, a change of style.
A change of hopes, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.
Different colors, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun won't set you free.
So you say

We'll share a drink and step outside,
An angry voice and one who cried,
I gave you everything and more,
The strain's too much, can't take much more
I've walked on water, run through fire,
Can't seem to feel it anymore.
Because we're, yay
Hoping for something more,
Hoping for something else
We're, yay
You seeing me this way,

You're hoping for something more
When our love goes wrong

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Moby’s song “New Dawn Fades” from his album “I Like to Score” depict the theme of change, regret, and lost love. The opening lines of the song suggest a desire for something new, a change of scenes, style, and hopes with no regrets. The lyrics reveal a sense of admiration for the distance, yet the singer remains occupied. The different colors and shades mentioned signify the various experiences and emotions encountered by the singer over the course of the relationship. The line “over each mistake were made, I took the blame” indicates a sense of personal responsibility for the downfall of the relationship.

The next stanza describes a shared experience- the line “we’ll share a drink and step outside’’ indicates that the singer wants to confront the other person. The angry voice and the one who cried suggest that there is a lot of pain and anger present in the situation. The singer reflects on the effort they put into the relationship- “I gave you everything and more” but the strain is too much, and they cannot take it anymore. “Walking on water and running through fire” is a metaphor for the effort, risks, and sacrifices that the singer made to save the relationship. But despite it all, they can’t seem to feel it anymore.

Overall, the song portrays a sense of loss, regret, and a longing for something more. The singer doesn’t want to give up on the relationship, but it has gone wrong. The song leaves the listener with a sense of melancholy and a reminder that some things in life are beyond our control.

In my opinion, the shootout scene is the best shootout scene in the history of cinema. Val Kilmer steals the show with his legendary performance, the timing, his smooth yet epic movement, he portrays a desperate yet convincing killer in that scene. Ruthless and class at the same time. That scene didn’t even need music that’s how amazing it was it made it so real. How ironic that one of the best scenes had no music and then the movie also has this soundtrack in it. A true masterpiece you know. Underrated. Underappreciated. Under valued. It’s one of the best films of all time, a timeless classic. It’s in the Top 10 movies of all time easy.

The US army actually use that shootout scene as a training video, as it is so well executed đŸ‘đŸ»

EllzGoesPro

Sad to say but movies like this can't be made anymore. Just the old "cops and robbers" story is too boring for modern audiences and now it has to be all CGI and have a superhero in it.
