We Are All Made Out Of Stars
Moby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Growing in numbers
Growing in speed
Can't fight the future
Can't fight what I see

[Chorus:]
People they come together
People they fall apart
No one can stop us now
'Cause we are all made of stars

Efforts of lovers
Left in my mind
I sing in the reaches
We'll see what we find

[Chorus]
People they come together
People they fall apart
No one can stop us now
'Cause we are all made of stars

People they come together
People they fall apart
No one can stop us now
'Cause we are all made of stars

Slow slow slow, come come
Someone come come come
Even love is goin' 'round
You can't ignore what is goin' 'round

Slowly rebuilding
I feel it in me
Growing in numbers
Growing in peace

[Chorus]
People they come together
People they fall apart
No one can stop us now
'Cause we are all made of stars

People they come together
People they fall apart
No one can stop us now
'Cause we are all made of stars

People they come together
(People they come together)
People they fall apart
(People they fall apart)
No one can stop us now
(No one can stop us now)
'Cause we are all made of stars
(We are all made of stars)

'Cause we are all made of stars
People they come together
'Cause we are all made of stars
(People they fall apart)
'Cause we are all made of stars
(No one can stop us now)

'Cause we are all made of stars
(We are all made of stars)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Moby's song We Are All Made From Stars convey a powerful message about the indivisibility of humanity. The first part of the song speaks about the inevitability of progress, growth and change, as the world becomes increasingly interconnected and fast-paced. The chorus highlights the fact that despite the vast differences that exist between individuals and groups of people, the fundamental truth remains that all humans are made from the same basic building blocks - stardust. This commonality unites people, while also acknowledging the reality that relationships and human connections are constantly in flux.

The second verse of the song is more introspective and speaks of the inner worlds of individuals. The lyrics mention the "efforts of lovers" and the singer's own internal explorations, which mirror the boundless search for meaning and purpose that is common to all humans. The last few lines of the song capture the optimism that runs throughout the piece, as Moby sings about the slow, incremental progress of personal and collective growth.

Overall, the lyrics to We Are All Made From Stars are a poetic and meaningful exploration of what it means to be human, and how even amidst chaos, division and upheaval, humans can find common ground and unity through their shared origins and destinies.

I was in a really low place inside my head in 2002. I had a choice, let my anger spill over or turn that energy into something positive.

This song was a huge part of me choosing the latter.

It has since all worked out for the best.

I hope that if you're reading this while listening to this song, you find the same path.

Thanks Moby!

This was always me and my dad's song. He was fighting terminal cancer but died at home on Friday. At the end, when he was non-responsive and we couldn't find words to fill the space, each of us kids sang him a song and this was the song I sang to him. He really loved music and I have beautiful memories of driving around with my dad in the TJ, looking at ocean, blaring this song.
