They began playing in the mid-nineties in Mexico City, as a parody of the glamorous style of many 80's bands like Poison and Mötley Crüe; it began as a side project to the members' original bands, but eventually became quite popular among members of the Mexican alternative scene. With the coming to the mainstream of many underground interests, they became widely popular.
They launched their mainstream debut CD, Resurrección in 2001. This album re-awakened the Mexican feeling for wannabe Pop Rock, and quickly gained popularity with their first single "Márchate Ya" and the later "Isabel". In November 2004 they launched Detector de Metal, whose first single Muriendo Lento featuring female pop singer Belinda, was a huge hit that gave Moderatto massive appeal. Since the launch of Detector de Metal, the band has been giving huge concerts that have been completely sold out in Mexico's most important arenas, like the Auditorio Nacional and Teatro Metropolitan.
Moderatto released a new album at the end 2006 titled ¡GRRRR!. The first single off of ¡GRRRR! is Sentimettal, which in 3 weeks climbed all the way to #3 in the Mexican Top 40.
Despite perceiving themselves as metal, members of the band have received the criticism of some metal fans who said than the band is more pop rock.
Following Sentimettal, Moderatto released their next single, Si Mi Delito Es Rockear (Me Declaro Culpable).
On 2008 the Queremos Rock comes out, it includes 8 songs written by them and 2 covers.
Carisma their last studio album, was released in October 2012. With singles Entrégate and Gracias being a success.

Y óyeme,
No te olvides de traer,
Chaperona.
Dile que se vista igual,
Como ayer,
Que con ella es un placer,
Está mona.
Como tú,
Yo me siento el rey
De un pequeño harén,
Aunque ya no sepamos bien
Quién vigila a quién
Uuuuu ch ch ch chaperona
Házle caso a tu mamá
Es verdad
Es mejor salir con la
Chaperona
No hay peligro para ti
Sí para mí
Si me mira con ojos
De leona
Piernas sin final
Es total
Yo me siento el rey
De un pequeño harén
Aunque ya no sepamos bien
Quién vigila a quién.
Uuuuu ch ch ch chaperona
Que más da un amor de dos
Que de tres
No nos divertimos sin
Chaperona
Tengo el mundo a mis pies
Ya lo ves
Entre mi princesa y mi
Amazonas
Algo original
Especial
Yo me siento el rey
De un pequeño harén
Aunque ya no sepamos bien
Quién vigila a quién.

The song "Chaperona" by Moderatto is an upbeat and playful song that is sung entirely in Spanish. The song starts by setting up a meeting between the singer and the listener at six o'clock. The singer urges the listener not to forget to bring a "chaperona" with her. The chaperona is a female companion who will help to keep an eye on the singer and the listener while they are out together. The singer then asks the chaperona to dress in a similar way to how she did yesterday because he finds it pleasurable to be with her. The reference to a blue miniskirt serves to emphasize the sexual attraction between the characters.
The second verse continues the theme of the chaperona's importance, saying that the listener should listen to her mother's advice to go out with a chaperona. While there may not be any danger for the listener, the same cannot be said for the singer, who might get in trouble if the chaperona looks at him with "leona" eyes. Despite this, the singer still finds pleasure in being the "king of a small harem" with the chaperona and the listener. The final verse contains the message that it doesn't matter whether there is love between two or three people as long as they are having fun with the chaperona. The singer describes feeling like a king between his princess and his Amazons.
Overall, the song "Chaperona" by Moderatto is a light-hearted take on the importance of the female chaperone, as well as a playful celebration of male sexual attraction. The song is done in a campy style that is reminiscent of glam rock or '80s hair metal bands.
