They began playing in the mid-nineties in Mexico City, as a parody of the glamorous style of many 80's bands like Poison and Mötley Crüe; it began as a side project to the members' original bands, but eventually became quite popular among members of the Mexican alternative scene. With the coming to the mainstream of many underground interests, they became widely popular.
They launched their mainstream debut CD, Resurrección in 2001. This album re-awakened the Mexican feeling for wannabe Pop Rock, and quickly gained popularity with their first single "Márchate Ya" and the later "Isabel". In November 2004 they launched Detector de Metal, whose first single Muriendo Lento featuring female pop singer Belinda, was a huge hit that gave Moderatto massive appeal. Since the launch of Detector de Metal, the band has been giving huge concerts that have been completely sold out in Mexico's most important arenas, like the Auditorio Nacional and Teatro Metropolitan.
Moderatto released a new album at the end 2006 titled ¡GRRRR!. The first single off of ¡GRRRR! is Sentimettal, which in 3 weeks climbed all the way to #3 in the Mexican Top 40.
Despite perceiving themselves as metal, members of the band have received the criticism of some metal fans who said than the band is more pop rock.
Following Sentimettal, Moderatto released their next single, Si Mi Delito Es Rockear (Me Declaro Culpable).
On 2008 the Queremos Rock comes out, it includes 8 songs written by them and 2 covers.
Carisma their last studio album, was released in October 2012. With singles Entrégate and Gracias being a success.

Cositas malas de mi
Manda a todos a volar
Y diles que yo no fui
Yo te aseguro que yo no fui
Son puros cuentos que hay por ahí
Tu me tienes que creer a mi
Todos me dicen por ahí
Que tienes cara de yo no fui
Y a ti te dicen el "yo lo vi"
Tu me tienes que creer a mi
Hay mama que yo no fui
Yo te aseguro que yo no fui
Mira muchacha que yo no fui
Yo te aseguro que yo no fui
Tu tienes cara de piruli
Yo te aseguro que yo no fui
Hay mama que yo no fui
Yo te aseguro que yo no fui
Mira mi negra que yo no fui
Yo te aseguro que yo no fui

The lyrics to Moderatto's song Yo No Fuí talk about rumors being spread about the singer and attempts to clear their name from any wrongdoing. The lyrics begin with the singer being warned about people spreading bad things about them and they tell their listener to ignore these rumors and not believe them because they didn't do anything wrong. The chorus repeats the phrase "yo no fui" which means "it wasn't me" in English, indicating the singer's innocence.
The song then goes on to mention how everyone else thinks the singer is guilty when they have done nothing wrong, and they even go as far as to call out various cities in Mexico and people, including the singer's sister, who also think the singer is guilty. In the end, the singer continues to assert their innocence and swears on something, although it's not specified what that something is.
The song can be interpreted in multiple ways, with some seeing it as a humorous take on rumors and gossip while others see it as a commentary on how quickly people are willing to believe the worst in others without knowing all the facts. Regardless of the interpretation, the song's catchy melody and repetitive chorus have made it a popular hit in Mexico and Latin America.
