Dark, heavy, moving, hard-rock collides with memorable melodies and a touch of progressive rock to create a powerful sound that will appeal especially to fans of 10 Years, A Perfect Circle, Breaking Benjamin, and more.
This Milwaukee based band's music has been featured on television including the Discovery Channel, American Choppers, as well as publications including My Global Mind, Espy Rock, and interviewed by Maximum Ink. The band also recently signed a licensing deal with APM Music and chose Skillet guitarist Ben Kasica's Skies Fall Studios to handle the recording of their debut full length album.
Spirit In The Machine, the first full length album by the Milwaukee four-piece band Modern Echo, covers a kaleidoscope of emotions. “It was a very intense album to make,” offers vocalist Jonathan Schweiger. “Many of the tracks have light at the end of the tunnel lyrically, but some are more bittersweet. All of the change and upheaval in our lives before this record played a big part in the creative process.”
From the complex, distorted guitar riffs and brutal drums in songs like “Sleepwalker” and “Light Your Eyes”, to the more subdued and nuanced ‘Hold On’ and ‘Spirit In The Machine’, the band proves itself worthy of any hard rock band in the genre. However, amongst all the musical chaos is the powerful, melodic voice of vocalist Jonathan Schweiger. Schweiger’s unique vocal styling lends the band its own sound, very different from the stereotypical rock voice. The combination infuses a rare balance of beauty and power that is unique to the band.
The album also showcases Modern Echo's chemistry and collaborative approach. Some songs were written complete or in part by a particular member, while others were written together. “Each person in the band plays guitar and other instruments so it made the writing process wide open with everyone giving input and writing parts,” states bassist Joe Alba. “In fact, we had over 20 tracks before narrowing it down to the final 12 to make the album. We were able to take the songs, build them, spend time on them – it was really important to have the songs sound huge, but also that we could replicate them live.”
A killer live show and intense touring has brought Modern Echo's powerful approach to hard rock to critical acclaim with fans, media, and other bands alike. The band considers itself first and foremost, a live band. “We feel most at home onstage, and these songs were written to be performed live,” Schweiger says. “The songs get an extra level of intensity through that performance.”
Modern Echo is a band that walks the fine line between aggression and melody, between intensity and nuance. “We're all pretty different as musicians and people, but early on it was clear we were on to something special. It's those differences in personality and past experiences that can actually bring people together. For us, it helped power a diverse record full of music and lyrics we knew people would relate to,” states guitarist Michael Joseph.
And that is what memorable bands are all about.

Gonna be the same memory, like it always has before
Beneath her pale lit eyes, something sparks a light
Look inside and feel the sun shine
Bring on the pain, I'm ready for change
I've gotta carry on until I have nothing left to hide
Been wasting away, still wondering for days
Running from the lie, she passes through the gray-
endless streets, suffocating dreams. Knowing what she has store
Beneath her pale lit eyes, something sparks a light
Look inside and feel the sun shine
Not losing time, I'm gaining faith, listen close, listen close
I'm forging on, I'll face my death, to be free, to be free
So bring on the pain, I'm ready for change
I've gotta carry on until I feel alive…
Been wasting away, still wondering for days
I've gotta carry on until I see the sun rise
Bring on the pain, I'm ready for change
I've gotta carry on until I have nothing left to hide
Been wasting away, still wondering for days
I've gotta carry on until I see the sun rise
The song "Aurora" by Modern Echo is a beautiful and inspirational song about perseverance and hope. The singer is stepping into a new day, prepared for what's to come. However, they're also aware that it might be just like all the other memories they've had before - unremarkable and forgettable. But beneath her pale eyes, something sparks a light - an indication of hope, a glimmer of something amazing. She knows that she needs to embrace the pain and the struggle, to carry on until she feels alive, until she sees the sun rise.
The singer is running from lies and the suffocating dreams that the endless streets hold. Even though she knows what's in store for her, she's determined to face it all and emerge free. She's gaining faith, not losing time. The song encourages the listener to look inside themselves and find that spark of light that can drive them forward. Overall, the message of the song is one of hope and perseverance, and the singer's determination to carry on despite hardships is incredibly inspiring.

Hey ***** ! We're so glad you like the song. Our band is in a great evolutionary period right now which aligns well with the concepts behind Élan Vital. You can learn more about the theory here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89lan_vital Have you heard the rest of our new album?

+Modern Echo Done! This song is my favorite of yours by far. This and "Our Yesterday". Good thing cassette's are no more, because over the last couple of weeks this is all I've been listening to, if it was a cassette, it would be worn out by now. :)
