Bakgrunn
Tidlig på 1980-tallet søkte gruppa Catrix fra Stavanger etter en vokalist. Morten Abel Knutsen prøvde seg, selv om de egentlig lette etter en kvinne. Det tok ikke lang tid før han ble fast medlem i gruppa. Gruppa skiftet navn til til Mods, og ble etter hvert kjent over hele Norge. De hadde mange populære sanger, de mest kjente er nok «Tore Tang», «Bare i nått», «Du e mislykka» og «Me to går alltid aleina», som alle er på debutplata «Revansj» fra 1981. Året etter kom oppfølgeren «Amerika». Bandets to gitarister fra første album var da sluttet og gitarist Tor Øyvind Syvertsen var med som nytt medlem. Bandets tredje album «Time Machine» kom i 1984, og da var besetningen endret ytterligere. Bare Knutsen og Viig var med videre, og nå spilte de sammen med Geir Samsonsen og Craig Whitson. Senere samme år skulle Mods også oppløses.
Etter suksessen med Mods tok Knutsen med seg Hummervoll og Syvertsen og stiftet en ny gruppe, The September When. Han endret også artistnavnet sitt til Morten Abel. Tidligere Mods-trommeslager Leif Nilsen startet gruppen Leif Og Kompisane.
Sommeren 2006 ble det gitt ut en samleplate med de mest kjente sangene, samlingen fikk tittelen «Gje meg litt merr - de beste».

The Mods were a pop/rock band from Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway, which produced big hits in Norway in the dialect spoken in Stavanger.
The band lasted from 1980-1984 and had three albums recorded: Revansj! (1981), Amerika (1982) and Time Machine (1984). The first one is the most famous one and the one with the most hits.
Hits like: Tore Tang, Bare i nått, Revansj, Meg må du hilsa på (Du e mislykka) and Me to går alltid alleina are all on the 1981 album. Tore Tang is probably the best known song from Stavanger.
The band was known as Catrix before Morten Abel Knutsen joined in 1980.
They played some reunion concerts in 1990 in the Stavanger area. Morten Abel has on several occasions dismissed the band and their songs. Nevertheless, they are considered legends, especially in their home county Rogaland. Drummer Leif Nilsen later formed Leif & Kompisane, they sometimes play Mods songs live.
Abel, Hummervoll and Syvertsen later formed the band The September When in 1987, and Abel eventually went on to become a very successful solo artist in Norway.
In 1992, a CD re-issue set of two first Mods albums was released with the title Originaler. A "Best of" CD/DVD was released in 2006. These CDs are still selling well.
On the two first albums they only use the Stavanger dialect of Norwegian. On the third, least successful of their albums they also sing some in English.
