Four
Moe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I had a dream that we took our guns and we just thru them thangs all away
Then I heard two hits boom boom two shots coming from the another way
Another Black man down emptied out four rounds
In this Digital world give his family six days and I promise he be underground
This shit aint new to me
Pops did his eulogy
This world is ever changing
I can tell what is done to me
Remember the time when living in peace was living divine
Thats a fantasy I just don't remember I wish we could live like Wakanda forever
Wakanda Forever Wakanda Forever Wakanda Forever
I wish we could live like Wakanda forever
Wakanda forever Wakanda forever
Thats a fantasy I just don't remember I wish we could live like Wakanda forever
Wakanda Forever Wakanda Forever Wakanda Forever
I wish we could live like Wakanda forever
Wakanda forever Wakanda forever
Thats a fantasy I just don't remember I wish we could live like Wakanda forever
Why he got killed in the passenger seat
Why you choking him he said he can't breathe
Pulled out the car thrown in the cell locked my dude up and denied him his bail
Fifty shots was shot out to Sean Bell heaven is real cause we living in hell
Throw my hoodie on repping Trayvone I guess its some righteous shit that I be on
Got mind right ready for war theres no where safe not even home
Kick in the door waving the Four four
Then she realized she's on the wrong floor
What more can I say give us us free
Even Imbaku will agree with me
This the way we all should pay homage cause they all new death was better than bondage
Wakanda Forever Wakanda Forever Wakanda Forever
I wish we could live like Wakanda forever

Wakanda forever Wakanda forever
Thats a fantasy I just don't remember I wish we could live like Wakanda forever

Overall Meaning

In the song "Four" by the band moe., the lyrics speak to the societal issues that many Black individuals in America experience on a daily basis. The singer describes a dream he had where he and others threw away their guns, but then he hears two gunshots in the distance and realizes that another Black man has been killed. He acknowledges that this is not a new experience for him, as his father had to do a eulogy for someone in the past. The singer remembers a time when living peacefully was a reality, but he doesn't believe it's possible anymore. He dreams of living in Wakanda, a fictional African country, where Black people live in peace and prosperity.

The second half of the song delves deeper into the systemic issues that contribute to police brutality and the deaths of Black individuals. The singer references specific instances where Black men, such as Sean Bell and Trayvon Martin, were killed either by the police or because of their race. The singer imagines himself ready for war and breaking down doors with guns, but also acknowledges the reality that there is no safe place for Black individuals in America.

Overall, the song speaks to the frustration and despair that many Black individuals feel in response to the police brutality and systemic racism that they experience.

Okay I have a question. This has bothered me for years. During the chorus, Al says something that is not covered by any of the lyrics websites. He starts his sentence right before " four sleeping dogs lie" is sung and it sounds like the sentence ends with "until the end." Who knows what Al is saying?
