Fear
Moev Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't ask me
What's on my mind
Unless you really want
To know
Talk of fear...
The killing kind
Never been the one
To let it show
Fear is talking
Always talking
I can't hear hear a word
When I get angry
At what I feel
I never let it get too real
Means so much
To someone with expectations
There's never enough
Means so much
And it's too tempting
To listen
Fear is talking
Always talking
I can't hear hear a word
When I get angry
At what I feel
I never let it get too real
You could talk faster
And run out of time
And here's just never enough
Anger keeps burning it up
Fear is talking
Always talking
I can't hear hear a word
When I get angry

At what I feel
I never let it get too real

Overall Meaning

Moev is a Canadian synthpop band that formed in Vancouver in 1981. Their song Fear, which was featured on their 1982 debut album Zimmerkampf, is an introspective meditation on the experience of fear and the difficulty of expressing one's emotions to others. The lyrics describe the singer's hesitation to reveal the inner turmoil they feel, even when prompted to do so by someone else. They mention the "killing kind" of fear, suggesting that it is a dangerous emotion that can consume a person if left unchecked.

The refrain of "Fear is talking, always talking" suggests that the singer is constantly wrestling with their fears, which seem to have a life of their own. They express frustration with their inability to articulate their feelings, saying "I can't hear a word" when they are angry. At the same time, they are careful not to "let it get too real," suggesting that they are afraid of losing control if they allow their emotions to come to the surface.
