In a career spanning about 40 years, Rafi sang over 26,000 film songs. His songs ranged from classical numbers to patriotic songs, sad lamentations to highly romantic numbers, qawwalis to ghazals and bhajans, and from slow melancholic tunes to fast and melodious fun filled songs. He had a strong command of Hindi and Urdu and a powerful range that could accommodate this variety. He sang in many Indian languages including Hindi, Konkani, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Oriya, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, Maghi, Maithili and Assamese. He also recorded a few English, Persian, Spanish and Dutch songs.
Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaye To

Yeh insaan ke dushman samaajon ki duniya
Yeh daulat key bhookhey rawajon ki duniya
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai
Har ek jism ghayal, har ek rooh pyaasi
Nigahon mein uljhan, dilon mein udaasi
Yeh duniya hai ya aalam-e-badhawasiYeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai
Yahaan ik khilona hai insaan ki hasti
Yeh basti hai murda paraston ki basti
Yahaan to jeevan sey hai maut sasti
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai
Jawaani bhatakti hai badkaar ban kar
Jawaan jism sajtey hein bazaar ban kar
Yahaan pyaar hota hai byopaar ban kar
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai
Yeh duniya jahaan aadmi kuch nahi hai
Wafa kuch nahi, dosti kuch nahi hai
Yahaan pyaar ki qadr hi kuch nahi hai
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai
Jala do isey, phoonk daalo yeh duniya
Mere saamne se hata lo yeh duniya
Tumhari hai tum hi sambhalo yeh duniya
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai
The song "Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaye To" by Mohammed Rafi is a poignant reflection on the harsh reality of the world we live in. The first few lines describe the opulence of the world with its palaces, thrones, and crowns, but then goes on to denounce it as the enemy of humankind. The world is characterized as a place where people are driven by greed and hunger for wealth, and where society is marked by enmity. The lament, "Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai" (What good is this world, even if one gets it), suggests that worldly possessions bring little comfort or solace to the human heart.
The following verse expresses a sense of existential angst, where every body is wounded and every soul is parched. There is confusion and sorrow in the eyes and hearts of people, and the world feels like a wasteland. The song turns to the futility of life on earth, where human existence is but a plaything and society is dead. This is a realm where both life and death come cheaply and where love is subjugated to the market economy.
The final verse is a heart-wrenching plea to destroy this world, to remove it from sight, or at least to give it back to its inhabitants to manage as they see fit. The sense of despair and longing in these lyrics is profound, but it is an open question whether the song's protagonist (or the singer) has any hope for change. In the face of rampant capitalism, social inequality, and moral decay, are we powerless, or can we somehow fight back and create a more compassionate world?

Every sensitive person is moved by the misery and madness of this world, but few have the ability to express their emotions like Sahir. What a master poet he was! He is at his poetic best in this song. SD Burman’s music provides the ideal framework for Sahir’s words and Mohd. Rafi’s magical voice brings them to life. Add Guru Dutt’s wonderful acting and you have a perfect song!

रफी साहब के इस गीत में सब से खास बात यह है कि उन्हों ने गुरुदत्त साहब की आवाज और अदायेगी से मैच कर दिया है।
