1) a Canadian alternative rock band,
2) a Swedish electronic pop project,
3) an Indonesian shoegaze band, and
4) an Australian industrial duo.
1) Moist is a five-piece Canadian alternative rock band that was popular in the mid-to-late-1990s. The band is led by singer David Usher. Former members include Jeff Pearce (bass) and Paul Wilcox (drums).
Moist formed in the early 1990s and eventually released an independent cassette in 1993. The cassette caught the attention of EMI, who released their first full-length studio CD, Silver, in 1994. Producer Terry Brown (Rush, Blue Rodeo) was brought in to work on a few of the band's songs, and the album went on to sell 400,000 copies in Canada on the strength of hard-hitting singles like Push, Silver and Believe Me. The follow up, Creature, was released in 1996 to even greater success, with the band's sound maturing and fostering its softer side. A final studio album titled Mercedes 5 and Dime was released in 1999 which was softer and more melancholic than previous releases.
Moist have called off their indefinite hiatus as of September 2013, and released their new single "Mechanical" on May 23rd, 2014.

Hate
Moist Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bitterness will run you through
If you're in the way
Love broken by the dragon's wings
Prayed for one bright thing
Guess I'll have to wait
Dragged me out
Frightened by my own sweet smell
I know hate
Words spit into a porous wind
Violence blows you in
If you're in the way
Mine a victim of the cold parade
Silenced some might say
Guess it came too late
Dragged me out
Frightened by my nakedness
Fouled by my own sweet smell
I know hate
Places fought for left alone
Sleep can't save me numbing
Drags me out
In my nakedness
In my own sweet smell
I know I know I know
And it brings me comfort
Then it breaks my back
Precious pulls me under
'Til I can't get back
And you might be sorry
But this time I know
The song "Hate" by Moist talks about the feelings of bitterness, anger, and hatred that can consume an individual's life. The lyrics illustrate a sense of isolation and abandonment, as portrayed by the empty room, with the subject being consumed by hatred. The dragon's wings represent a feeling of powerlessness and fear. The individual has been hoping for love or positivity, but it seems out of reach, and they will just have to keep waiting.
The lyrics "Words spit into a porous wind, Violence blows you in" suggest that the more negative energy that an individual puts out in the world, the more it will come back to them. The chorus repeats the lines "Dragged me out, frightened by my nakedness, Fouled by my own sweet smell, I know hate" which describes the feeling of being dragged out into the open, exposed and vulnerable, and the smell of their own misery and depression.
Towards the end of the song, the lyrics indicate that despite feeling comforted by the hate, it can still break an individual's back, leading to a sense of powerlessness and despair. The track concludes with the line "And you might be sorry, but this time I know," indicating that the subject has accepted their situation, and they know that the feelings of hate and bitterness may never entirely go away.
