1) a Canadian alternative rock band,
2) a Swedish electronic pop project,
3) an Indonesian shoegaze band, and
4) an Australian industrial duo.
1) Moist is a five-piece Canadian alternative rock band that was popular in the mid-to-late-1990s. The band is led by singer David Usher. Other members of the band are Mark Makoway (guitars), Francis Fillion (drums), Louis Lalancette (bass), Jonathan Gallivan (guitars) and Kevin Young (keyboards). Former members include Jeff Pearce (bass) and Paul Wilcox (drums).
Moist formed in the early 1990s and eventually released an independent cassette in 1993. The cassette caught the attention of EMI, who released their first full-length studio CD, Silver, in 1994. Producer Terry Brown (Rush, Blue Rodeo) was brought in to work on a few of the band's songs, and the album went on to sell 400,000 copies in Canada on the strength of hard-hitting singles like Push, Silver and Believe Me. The follow up, Creature, was released in 1996 to even greater success, with the band's sound maturing and fostering its softer side. A final studio album titled Mercedes 5 and Dime was released in 1999 which was softer and more melancholic than previous releases.
Moist have called off their indefinite hiatus as of September 2013, and released their new single "Mechanical" on May 23rd, 2014.

Liberation
Moist Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Frenzied sucking on the
Cigarette in her hand
A buxom bosom wet like
Waterfall it wasn't wasted
So come laugh come love
Come borrow everything you
Need me to be
Liberation dies again
And we climbed so hard and
Fast so lovely
Just like it was before
Emptied out her life opened up
On the opposite shore
And I cannot believe that we
Conceived what we
Were contemplating
Its alright by me
Please help me cause I'm lost
And I can't see
Which way we go
I'm a victim just the backlash
Of your cold philosophy if you
Can't help me I will help myself
Or so this story goes
Undid the knot the lock the
Pertenity violin in her hand
Began to understand the interiors
Its operatic now
So laugh and love and borrow
Everything you wanted
Me to be
Pouring in like life
Till liberation dies again
Please help me cause I'm lost
And I can't see which way we go
I'm a victim just hate backlash of
Our cold philosophy if you
Can't help me I will help myself or
So the story goes
I got a sense that something
Now I'm left with nothing
I had hoped to be
As broad as I can be
Indivisible by me
Indestructible by thee
All the places that
I had hoped to free
And all in want of nothing
Pleasure slides escapes me
Undermining
By your criminality
Its what my momma told me
Baby just come home
Rest awhile
Set you free
Please help me 'cause I'm lost
And I can't see
Which way we go
I'm a victim just the backlash
Of your cold philosophy
If you can't help me
I will help myself
Or so this story goes
The lyrics of Moist's song "Liberation" tell a story of a tumultuous relationship that is perhaps based on a cold philosophy that doesn't allow for true freedom. The song starts with the imagery of a frenzied and possibly sexually charged encounter between the singer and their partner. The lines "A buxom bosom wet like waterfall it wasn't wasted" suggest that the encounter was passionate and intense. However, the following lines "So come laugh come love come borrow everything you need me to be" imply that the relationship is not one of true love, but rather based on the singer's willingness to be what the partner needs them to be, indicating a lack of freedom and authenticity.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on the relationship, saying "And we climbed so hard and fast so lovely just like it was before" which suggests that they have been through ups and downs before. The following lines "Emptied out her life opened up on the opposite shore" imply that the partner may have experienced some sort of personal crisis or transformation, leading them to be more open and vulnerable. The singer seems to be struggling with their own understanding of the situation, saying "And I cannot believe that we conceived what we were contemplating. Its alright by me" indicating that they may not understand how they ended up in this situation, but are willing to accept it.
The chorus repeats the lines "Please help me cause I'm lost and I can't see which way we go. I'm a victim just the backlash of your cold philosophy if you can't help me I will help myself or so this story goes." The singer is unsure of where the relationship is going and feels like a victim of the partner's philosophy, which seems to be making it difficult for them to find true liberation. Overall, the song paints a vivid picture of a complicated relationship that may be hindering the singer's personal growth and freedom.
