But it all began rather humbly in his hometown of Victoria, BC, where Moka Only discovered hip hop culture at an early age, starting out as a graffiti artist before switching to rhyming at house parties and freestyling anywhere and everywhere alongside partner K-Prevail (recording together as Splitsphere). In 1994, Moka made the move to San Diego in order to further his rap career, creating a number of connections that he would later use to his advantage. Upon moving back to Canada in 1995 and taking up residence in Vancouver, Moka met Mad Child, and along with K-Prevail, now just Prevail, the three emcees founded Swollen Members one night at a Denny's, with Moka coining their multiple meaning name. However, a group dynamic was not for Moka and he soon moved on to a solo career.
In 1995, Moka Only started flooding the local scene with a myriad of music, quickly earning himself the nickname of “The Most Prolific” by self-releasing cassettes on an almost seasonal basis, which led to a few vinyl releases and finally album deals with a variety of labels. All the while, Moka was building a name for himself as a strong and skillful emcee with down-to-earth subject matter ranging from hip hop to fashion, from food to travel, and from love to sex. Although best known for his rapping, Moka was also building his resume as a a quirky producer with a knack for mixing live and sampled instruments. While the majority of Moka's musical output has been self-produced, his beats are also sought after by a wide range of underground artists, including Buck 65, who used one of his beats for his new album, Dirtbike 1/3.
With his solo career as both rapper and producer on the rise, Moka Only participated in a few collaborations with Swollen Members resulting in Moka rejoining the group for Monsters in the Closet, their 2002 collection of b-sides and rarities featuring three new songs. He remained on board for Heavy in 2003 but left again prior to the recording of Black Magic. Once again Moka had found himself confined as part of a group.
His time with Swollen Members, which also saw him signed to the Battle Axe label, resulted in three consecutive Junos, but it also meant a decrease in the amount of solo music from Moka. “The Most Prolific” returned in 2005 beginning with the release of The Desired Effect, his Nettwerk debut that realized a much greater pop potential for Moka. Unhappy with the label interference, Moka released a Japan-only alternate version under the title Dirty Jazz that was more to his liking, marking Moka's return to releasing the nearly seasonal albums of gritty, underground jams he has always been known for through labels like Camobear, Legendary Entertainment and Urbnet, as well as an occasional one-off project for various other indie labels.

Choke the microphone the way he loc and choke a phony, won't he
Told them play ya station like a broken Sony
Tenderoni phone, she know me, come and stroke the pony
That good lovin' deserves an encore and a Tony
Brats in the hood buggin', they want more raw bologna
Chachi need to watch his bony skinny Joney
Villain fittin' to fattin' her up with Minestrone
While he rock the end zone, tap your toe or chin bone
The choice is yours alone
He came for the throne, and to get the game sewn
DOOM name known as the Don for sure, troop
And he won't show his face or sponsor your group
He sneak up and throw you for a loop
She peeped up, speak up if you want some more soup
New sues again, who do's crews again
Who's too smooth, whose flues want snooze with them
No surprise, no new-news to him
Here's a light bulb now how many of you screw this in
I do better when there's less team effort
Went from old blue sweater, I'm a less clean dresser
Full circle, back to the grind war
Mic by the mirror, I'm the best I ever saw record
Mok and Doom get it sewn like an open wound
Two scientists up in the lab will make it go kaboom
And said don't mix those two properties together
Prob'ly end up with some empty eye sockets or whatever
I'm only here to hunt pleasure like some treasure
Never from a wack pack of bitches like the Heathers
After this you better hone for some loot
You freaks with the funk'll make me want some more soup
Moka Only's "More Soup" is a complex and layered track that demands careful analysis to understand fully. The song speaks about the rapper's desire to succeed in the music industry and his willingness to do whatever it takes to get there.
The first verse begins with Moka Only boasting about his skills as an MC, claiming that he can choke out any phony that comes his way. He then goes on to urge the listener to play his music over and over again like a broken Sony, showing his confidence in his abilities. The next few lines describe his sexual prowess with a woman, claiming that he deserves an encore and a Tony for his good loving.
The following lines are more cryptic, referencing bologna, Joney, and Minestrone. It's unclear what Moka Only means by these words, but he is likely using them as metaphors for his personal experiences. He then describes himself as having a "Chromoly skin tone," which could refer to his mixed race background. He ends the verse by stating that he came for the throne and won't show his face, which could be interpreted as a desire to be recognized solely for his music.
The second verse begins with Moka Only questioning who his competition is and claiming that he is smoother than all of them. He then acknowledges that there is nothing new under the sun and that he is aware of everything that goes on in the industry. He then references a light bulb and asks how many people will "screw it in," possibly referring to his ability to shed light on the truth.
Moka Only then talks about his growth as an artist, starting out as a less clean dresser and then coming full circle back to the grind. He claims that he and DOOM are like two scientists in a lab, ready to make their music go kaboom. He then warns against mixing two properties together, as it could result in empty eye sockets. The verse ends with Moka Only stating that he is only in it for the pleasure and not interested in associating with "wack pack of bitches" like the Heathers.
Overall, "More Soup" is an intricate and intelligent track that showcases Moka Only's skill as a wordsmith and his desire to succeed in the music industry.
