Burch's voice takes cues from old timers like Dusty Springfield and Patsy Cline to create throaty mountains and valleys of sound. It's retro country and soul in the best way. Growing up in Los Angeles with a writer/producer father and a casting director mother, Burch's childhood was filled with old Hollywood musicals and the sounds of Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. After finding her voice in adolescence, Burch packed up for the University of North Carolina in Asheville to study Jazz Vocal Performance.

You're not my father
Don't even bother, don't bother me
Why do I like how you look?
You look like candy
You don't understand me, don't understand me
I'm not doin' this again
This will really have to be the end
No, no, no
Promise me baby, promise me baby
Promise me baby, promise me baby
You'll stay away, you'll stay away
You'll stay away, you'll stay away
Why do I think on my feet?
It's hard to stand now
Don't touch my hand now, don't touch me
Why do I make myself sick?
It's outrageous
I'm so contagious, don't come near me
I'm not doin' this again
No, no, no
This will really have to be the end
No, no, no
Promise me baby, promise me baby
Promise me baby, promise me baby
You'll stay away, you'll stay away
You'll stay away, you'll stay away
The lyrics to Molly Burch's song "Candy" seem to be about a toxic relationship between two individuals. In the first verse, Molly questions why she cares what this person thinks since they are not her father and they don't understand her. She then speaks to this person's physical appeal, stating that they look like candy but that they should not bother her. In the second verse, she talks about how hard it is to stand and thinks on her feet, indicating that perhaps this person is causing her anxiety or making her feel sick. She describes the situation as outrageous and contagious, perhaps indicating that this person's presence is harmful to her wellbeing.
The chorus is where Molly firmly draws the line, stating that she is not doing this again and that it will have to be the end. She then asks this person to promise her that they will stay away - four times in a row. The repetition of the promise emphasizes the urgency of the situation and shows how important it is for Molly to maintain distance from this individual.
Overall, the lyrics to "Candy" seem to be a warning to stay away from toxic people, even if they are physically appealing. The theme of self-preservation is prevalent throughout the song, as Molly recognizes the harm that this person is causing her and sets boundaries to protect herself.
