Dreams I'll Never See
Molly Hatchet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah, yeah

Just one more mornin'
I had to wake up with the blues
Pulled myself outta bed, yeah
Put on my walkin' shoes
Climb up on a hilltop, baby
To see what I could see, yeah
The whole world was fallin' down, baby
Right down in front of me

'Cause I'm hung up on dreams
I'm never gonna see, yeah
Lord help me, babe
Dreams get the best of me, yeah

Pull myself together
Gonna put on a new face, yeah
Climb down from the hilltop, baby
Lord, get back in the race

'Cause I got dreams, I've got my dreams
To remember the love we had
I got dreams, I've got my dreams
To remember the love we had

'Cause I'm hung up on dreams
I'm never gonna see yet, oh yeah
Lord help me, baby
Dreams get the best of me yet

Alright, yeah, yeah

Pull myself together
Put on a new face
Climb down from the hilltop, baby
Lord, get back in the race

'Cause I got dreams, I've got my dreams
To remember the love we had
I've got dreams, I've got my dreams
To remember the love we had

And I'm hung up, Lord, on dreams
I'm never gonna see yet
Not bad, not bad
Lord help me, baby

Dreams get the best of me yet
I wanna

Overall Meaning

start by saying that the lyrics to Molly Hatchet's song "Dreams I'll Never See" are a classic example of blues rock. It speaks of a person who is struggling to move on from their past but cannot seem to let go of their dreams. The opening lines, "Just one more mornin', I had to wake up with the blues," evoke a sense of resignation and acceptance of the fact that the singer is stuck in a rut.

Despite this, the singer tries to motivate themselves, puts on their walking shoes, and climbs up to a hilltop to assess their situation. Unfortunately, they see that the world is falling apart right in front of them. However, the singer still clings on to their dreams, even though they know they'll never see them come to fruition. The chorus, "I'm hung up on dreams I'm never gonna see, Lord help me babe, dreams get the best of me," is about their struggle to move on from their past.

In the second verse, the singer pulls themselves together and puts on a new face. They climb down from the hill and try to get back in the race. The lines "I've got dreams, I've got my dreams, to remember the love we had," are about holding on to memories of a past love, which is the source of the singer's pain.

In conclusion, "Dreams I'll Never See" is a song that speaks to the human condition of being stuck in the past while still hoping for a better future. The singer's words are timeless and resonate with anyone who has ever felt trapped by their past.

This song puts tears in my eyes because I know its gone and this generation has no clue. The best time of my life was during this era of music. Rock and Roll music in steroids. 😭 Miss these times.

Same here. All these guys are dead now. I had the pleasure of seeing them in 1990 at a small bar in Madison Wisconsin in 1990. I'm not sure who all the members were. But i remember the triple lead guitars. Swaying back and forth.. after the concert, i went up on stage and stole their song list!!

Big Dummy

@Big Sky Cool story. Do you still happen to have the song list?

No make-up, flash, laser, fog machine, costume, gimmicks or pyrotechnics. Just kick butt talent by real musicians that holds water today and always will. Mutual appreciation on display.

Funny how that southern rock made it clear up to the north wood. Radio was awesome.
