Let's Waste Some Time

I would walk these streets and end up nowhere
Once upon a dream you were my thrill
I could never think of love without you
My life was so complicated
Playing cool's so overrated
We could make a quiet exit
Slip away in a minute
We'll forget what was maybe just because
Come on baby lets waste some time
Here beneath the moon and starry sky
My hearts beating for you like a samba
Let the music play my radio
We could rescue love with just one kiss oh'
All the things we could uncover
One thing could lead to another
Anybody here could plainly see
We could make a quiet exit
Slip away in a minute
We'll forget what was maybe just because
Come on baby lets waste some time
Molly Johnson's song "Let's Waste Some Time" is a love song about letting go of the complications of life and just indulging in the moment. The first verse reminisces about a time when the singer's heart was at peace and she would wander aimlessly through the streets. It transitions into a nostalgic dream about a past love who brought excitement and meaning to life. The chorus of the song then invites the listener to forget about the complexities of life and to simply enjoy the moment with someone they love. The second verse continues the theme of the song with the singer admiring her lover underneath the moon and stars, while the samba music plays in the background. The lyrics suggest that the couple can discover new things about each other and spark passion just through spending time together. The chorus repeats that the two can make a quick escape from the world and forget whatever else is going on in their lives if they simply waste some time together.
The overall theme of the song is to slow down and appreciate life's simple pleasures. The singer acknowledges that her life was too complicated before, but that spending time with her lover can make everything feel manageable. The nostalgic tone of the song suggests that the couple had a past, but it is unclear whether they are still together. Regardless, the lyrics inspire the listener to find someone they love and to create their own romantic escape from the world. The upbeat tempo and jazzy orchestration further reinforce the message of the song to enjoy the moment and let life's worries melt away.

In Brazilian Portuguese, "Bossa Nova" means "New Way" (of doing things). Back in the late 50's, in the Brazilian musical scenario, it meant a new way of playing samba. Rithmically speaking, bossa nova has the same structure of samba, but it is played much lighter way. When it comes to the harmony, it is known as a very sophisticated musical style, with some room for improvisation, but not as much as in jazz.
