Just for a minute so I can be brutally honest with you
About everything I'm still so afraid of
Being there is hard when things eventually fall apart
So would you do it?
If I told you about how I felt
Would you stick through it?
When things aren't quite as easy as they once were
And you have a tendency to get mad when you're bored
And will you risk your sanity
Plus all the other things you might not end up liking about me
Will you promise to love me more than you might hate me?
So I'll stay sober
Or at least smoke a little less weed
If you'll live closer to me so I can still sleep at your house
When it's cold and it's dark outside
I've never slept that well in my whole life
And its nice to not have to try sometimes
‘Cause no ones ever made me feel the way that you do
No ones ever made me feel as loved as you do
And nobody else knows me the way that you do
Nobody's ever been this good to me
Not even myself
The lyrics of Mom Jeans.'s song "Now This Is Podracing" depict an intimate conversation between two individuals, where one person is pleading for the other to understand their perspective. The singer desires a brief moment of open honesty and vulnerability, wanting to share their fears and insecurities that they are still grappling with. They acknowledge that being present in a relationship becomes challenging when things inevitably start to fall apart. They pose the question of whether the other person would support them and stay committed if they were to reveal their true feelings. The singer recognizes their tendency to take on more than they can handle, while the other person has a tendency to become agitated when bored. Despite this, the singer asks if the other person is willing to risk their own sanity and accept all the potential flaws and aspects they might not like about them. They ask for a promise to love them more than they might hate them.
Additionally, the song portrays the singer's commitment to self-improvement. They express a willingness to stay sober or at least decrease their marijuana use, if it means they can be closer to their partner. The imagery of sleeping at their partner's house during cold and dark nights symbolizes the comfort and security they find in their presence. The singer reveals that they have never slept as peacefully as when they are with their partner, and the simplicity of not having to try so hard brings them joy. The song concludes with the assertion that nobody else has made the singer feel as loved and understood as their partner does, emphasizing the profound impact they have had on their life.
